"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see"(Heb. 11:1, NIV).
This definition is consistent with the one I have given: belief or conviction without supporting objective evidence.
Hope is not objective evidence. "Not seeing" is clearly not objective evidence.

You know I spent 4 yrs in a bible college - that was more of a seminary
If people don't agree with you about scripture you assume they are wrong ....
The protestant and Catholic wars were based on just that mentality - The Spanish inquisition killed an estimated 50 million according to some sources
I am now a very happy non Christian - and I never want to go back to it either
You can assume I am wrong and that the "spirit" has left me or I had the wrong one all along if you like but the christian arrogance in the question is more than annoying but it is in all truth following the example of your lord so I won't fault you for that either
But what I would like to know is if you are planning on beating these non believers into accepting the truth ?
Will you just follow the heretics around until they repent - Whats the plan here ?

I'm just wondering why you feel you know better? I think it's fine that you are a believer in Christianity. However, what makes you think that your beliefs are superior to any other non-Christian believer? I have my own beliefs, yet at the same time I feel that Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, etc, all belong to valid religions and that their beliefs are just as valid as any other groups. Religion should help you become a better person. It doesn't matter what religion you follow (or don't follow) as long as you live your life trying to be the most giving, loving, compassionate person that you can be. If you want to spend all your time trying to persuade other people that your beliefs are superior then you are missing the point completely. Stop preaching Christianity and arguing over interpretations and start making a difference through your actions.

I've never told a Christian how I've felt unless they've asked or preached their beliefs at me. Again you another Christian who's sharing you beliefs first so I'm responding. And I can safely say that I don't make up facts, because when it comes to the afterlife there is no certainty, but I've heard far more Christians preach their beliefs as facts. Furthermore, you act as if you've made an impartial observation of atheists but clearly you've judged us all as being liars(making up our own facts is what you called it) and you've even gone as far as to say you know better, so don't tell me that non-believers criticize without merit because clearly you're not tolerant of other beliefs. Judging by my interpretation of the bible I'd say you have some serious growing to do as a christian. I do believe in one value that the bible preaches: Judge not less ye be judged, and I certainly never judged you until you judged me...

Ok, now I'm beginning to think you are trolling.
The last 700,000 questions to non-believers contained made up stuff about what they believe, and you just didn't see it?
At least I have the humility to note when either side is in error.
But really, no-one says "are non-Christians capable of rational and objective observation" when they want to promote discussion, so it looks like you are a troll.

Let me break it down for you. You are christian because you were likely born into a christian family. Non-Christians (IE Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhist, Sikhs) are the same way. Just because you think you're the only correct person doesn't make it so. Believe it or not Christianity only represents 33% of the worlds religion, and that's not even breaking it down into the different sects. So basically you're addressing the other 67% of the world as an irrational group. Personally i think you need to stop being so biased and open your god damn eyes to realize that you're not the only person in the world.

Yeah. You know I just love hearing about what all of us atheists believe too. I often see Christians deciding that we really believe in God but just want to be willful. Or that we are afraid of being caught in our sins. Or that we are denying our creator. If I just say that I simply don't believe that is interpreted as Hating God and Worshiping Satan. From what I have seen on here the Christians simply can not be sane or rational. They are consistently unable to accept what is plain.

Everytime I hear a Christian say that non-Christians have "errant interpretations of the Bible, definitions, common beliefs and common behaviors..."
Well, no offense, but it makes me laugh.
How many Christians disagree with their fellow Christians on those very definitions, interpretations, common beliefs, and behaviors?
Why should we believe YOU have the correct ones?

i've meet enough christians who often force their belief on me.
even when i made no comments to their belief, they would simply force ideas down my throat and made reference to the things i did.
non-christians are definately capable of being rational and make objective observation. However, some christians would do better if they could try to be more open-minded to other religion or belief (example crystals/fengshui etc) and not be so critical to others.

This happens all the time
The Bible is a "Fairy Tale", "God is imaginary", things like this
some do this just to poke at those of us who do believe and others do it because that is just how they feel.
I just let them ramble and type what I know to be the best answer that I can give. My hope is that my answers will be looked up in the Bible and the person will learn about what they asked and not waste it

it's tough for non-christians to be accurate in describing christian beliefs when you guys argue with each other over the same meanings. i can say that i personally go after the beliefs i see as least legit AND being most harmful to america as a whole. i don't care if you think a snake spoke, i care about whether we teach the fossil record or not.
