ok, i made an ortho appt to talk about my jaw. i have had braces and worn retainers for about 2 years. my jaw has been acting up for about 1 year and ive talked to my ortho about it before, and i think its cause i clench. it used to pop and stick at night but not anymore. now its just constant pain. is there any other things that could cause my jaw to just be in constant pain?
also, my bite is really screwed up too. its so uncomfortable to simply bite down. my front teeth touch and only one side of my back teeth can accually bite down all the way. how do they correct that? will i have to get braces again? or sets of retainers? any ideas?

Could be tmj, I am actually having the same kind of problems and talked to one of my sister's dental hygiene teachers day before last about it. She said that they would most likely do retainers if it is something they can fix. TMJ with ortho patients is caused because they are shifting everything around in there and the bite ends up in a strained position. Hope it is something they can fix fairly easily. Good luck.

I think if you've been in pain for over a year and you've talked to your orthodontist about it already and he hasn't done anything.. it's time to see another ortho! Your teeth sound pretty horrendous for someone who has gone through orthodontia :( It's quite likely that you ARE clenching your teeth in your sleep and there is an appliance for that too.

get a nightguard made at the dentist or buy one in the pharmacy dept of walmart.

get your bite corrected, because that will cause pain, headaches, tmj, etc....
