God would not speak to someone and tell them to murder. Yes, He tested Abraham but stopped Him short of killing Isaac.

People don't go to prison or mental hospitals for following God. People go to prison for following self and mental hospitals because they are sick.

Any God that would tell you to kill your own family, is not the type of God worth worshiping.

That being said, I think most people who hear voices in their heads telling them to do things are suffering from schizophrenia or some other mental illness. They should be in a mental hospital if they have voices telling them to commit murder because they are a danger not only to themselves but to others.

First of all God would not tell you to kill your family. People who hear this would be schizophrenic. This does not deny the fact though that God does speak to His Children- and when He does we must listen. Everything that we hear must be put to the TRUTH test- which means it must follow the Word. Anything that would go against the Word is not of God. Satan also can try to make us think it is God speaking when in reality it is his voice trying to make us do something God could never ask us to do. God does speak, we just have to be careful that it really is Him.

Some of those people didn't wind up in prison or mental hospitals, they became Yahweh's chosen people. Read the Old Testament.

Earl D: the part where Yahweh commands his chosen people to thrust through every man, woman, child and suckling with the sword. Or how about the part where he orders a man stoned to death for collecting firewood on the Sabbath? Or stoned to death for any number of other silly things?

God wouldn't ask you to do that. That is one of the Ten Commandments. If you have people in prison or mental hospitals for killing someone, God sure didn't ask them to do it. Now they're probably off their medication.

I don't think God would command you to disobey one of the 10 Commandments (Thou shall not kill), it wouldn't make sense!
Some people are mentally ill, and there might be a few people that hear real voices and are being tempted by evil.
But, I think mostly, people are mentally sressed (notice I said stressed and not ill), that maybe something just snaps inside them one day and all hell breaks loose.

People like Jim Jones, Charles Manson ect who claimed they were God were Psychopaths who new they could recruit people of weak minds to do what they wanted them to do... Others who are truly mentally ill Do hear voices....and as they know its not their own or anyones around them...... they assume its the voice of God.....Unfortunatley if it is derogitory voices telling them to kill they will..... then we have our wonderful court system that will commit them for a period of time..... or convict Anyone can claim God made me do it!!! but be very careful of the psychopath...there is a difference

Unfortunately very many of these folks who claim to hear God telling them to kill can be paranoid schizophrenic. The key symptoms are delusions and "auditory" hallucinations. They are usually unable to acknowledge their own negative feelings towards other people.

Religion is basically philosopy, which means there is no real right or wrong, just what you believe to be true. That's why even in Christianity, there are so many sects and denominations, even though they all claim to be true Christians, they are seperated by many beliefs. Early slave owners and founding fathers of the US claimed to be Christians, of course there were other Christians who were in disagreement with slave owners beliefs. The Nazi party leaders who carried out the destruction of over 6 million jews claimed to be true Christians as well. Todays Nazi parties and Aryan groups all claim to be true Christians and are Christian based as well. I'm sure that there are many Christians out there today who disagree with them. The bible is full of stories, where suppossedly god told men to kill thousands of men, woman and children. Did'nt "George DUBYA" refer to his own godly voices he heard prior to the start of the "war on terror". I guess it's all about what you believe.

God will Never cause man to Murder. He will not violate his own commands. The commandment commonly says Thou shall not kill, but in the original text, the word means to murder. To murder means to take ones life without just cause. Therefore, if someone said that God told them to do it, it would be in direct violation of one of his prime commandments. i.e. so God could not have told them to do it.
