What should I have done??? I was dancing with a very beautiful girl
( I like her and hope to talk to date her one day) and a guy came up to her and asked her to dance when I was dancing with her. I didn't want to make it ovious that I like her.

After a while interfere that guy just as he did and ask her girl to have a dance. Then ofcourse u got a proper reason to start a fight. Beat the hell outta him!

No. I don't think a girl is worth getting beat up and/or arrested. Maybe if she was a serious girlfriend you could just tell the guy to back off in a polite way. Only fight if you have to.

You left out a very important part of the story: What happened after he asked her? If she said "yes" and went with him, she's not worth your time, or swollen knuckles. If she said "No", then there's no need to punch him in the face, the rejection was blow enough.

punching someone could risk you (assault and battery)? even if hes a jerk, anyway it's up to you...
did you think she liked you?
did she try to get away from that guy when he came up to her, if not maybe she liked him too. next time make it a little more obvious to her you like her.
