She's right, he will get R&R, approximately 15 days while he's at home, sometime during his tour. In the mean time, while he's gone, keep busy! Taking a class of your interest, spend time with family and friends. He'll get to call you more often than you think and the time apart will end sooner than you think. I've been waiting for my soldier since March last year and he's been home quite a few times and he'll be done in September. Keeping busy made the time go by really fast, plus receiving letters really helps too. Good luck!

All I can tell you is be prepared for anything. The military is always changing and you do a lot of hurry up and wait. They usually give you a chance to set your family up in housing before you deploy but don't be surprised if he is deployed very quickly after that. When I first got stationed in Germany it was a newly wed couple and the husband had only 4weeks before they sent him. You will have lots of support groups and people in similar situations that you will be able to talk to. So you will get through it but remember things are always changing in the military so stay strong and keep your head up.

Each unit is different so it will depend on what his MOS will be and what unit he will be in. My husband is Aviation and he is currently in Iraq and I can tell you that they did give us a lot of time together before he left. He mostly worked half days and then the week before he left he had off to spend with us. Plus he WILL get R&R mid-tour so you will have that to look forward to. Just hang in there and you'll find out more information as it gets closer.

Really and truly it depends. They'll try to get him home to make plans and set his family up but it's not guaranteed. If they need someone doing is job, like yesterday, he'll leave straight away.\
It's got to be hard on you but if he has orders already you may be able to contact the Ombudsman for his new command and start making contact with other wives.
Hang in there and here's hoping he does get the time at home.

Chances are no, you wont get any time with him before he goes. Mine came home from work and said "I'm leaving for Iraq tomorrow" I didn't believe him, but he really did, he had to be gone all day out processing, and then straight to the Airport in the morning. Military sucks ***, and doesn't give a crap about family, I can't wait till mine gets out.

the answer is.. maybe. he will have to report to his duty station first. they may or may not give him some time before he has to report after AIT.
Once he reports, he may or may not have to deploy immediately.
Welcome to the Military. Expect it to be like this until he gets out.
