I have been feeling really awful for several weeks and just found out that I am extremely low on both Iron and Vitamin D. I am starting supplements. I have niferex which I hear is a good iron supplement and I have vitamin D 400 IU pills. 2 Part question: How long will it take me on the iron to start feeling better? And is 400 IU of vitamin D once daily enough for someone who is extremely low and needs to get back up to proper levels?

Your doctor, or at least a pharmacist should be able to recommend a dosage for you for the vitamin D. Or Google "daily Vitamin D requirements for an adult". As for the iron - make sure you take a good quality supplement. Some people find liquid iron better than tablet form. If your poo turns black you're just passing it through your system without it being absorbed, so switch brands.
It will take about as long as you've been iron deficient for you to build your levels back up, so if you've been feeling bad for 6 weeks, it will take at least 6 weeks to build your iron up again.

I think you will notice the difference in a few days. The vitamin D supplement that you have will be fine, just try to get some fresh sunshine on your face 10 minutes a day (that will help to generate some vitamin D)

to increase the absorption of your iron supplements, try to have them with vitamin c, a glass of orange juice is fine, or supplements if you prefer, building your iron level back up is a slow and gradual process, check out your diet too, to make sure you are getting all you need from the food you eat
