just fitted low voltage halogen down lights +dimmer switch?

they flicker one bank goes out when on full, i have got 12 lights +4 transformers the dimmer switch is 240 watts max do you think this could be the problem

You need a special dimmer switch that can drive an inductive load like the transformers you have. These are available but cost a little more than the standard dimmer
