I had the (sounds like) exact same pain. My doctor(s) ran tests and did Xrays, etc. It finally showed up on a BONE scan test. I have Osteoporosis. The pain was caused by small "compression fractures". I had the fractures under both breasts in the top of my ribs. I had one in my back, also my rib cage. I had broken a bone in half in the middle of my spine. You can turn "wrong" and get a compression fracture.
I turned wrong in the car and thought I was dying with pain. I hurt so bad I couldn't talk. It was so bad I called 911.
There are two things you can do if that is the problem. You can take pain pills and not move. They quit hurting after about a week of doing absolutely nothing. There is a surgery they can do, which I opted not to partake in. They inject some type of glue into the hair line cracks to fill them and the pain is gone. NO thank you on that one.
Compression fractures are very difficult to diagnose because they don't show up on the standard testings. I have so many fractures in the same area in my rib, under my left breast, that they thought it was a MASS...................
SOoooooooooooooo, ask your doctor about compression fractures and if this is a possible cause for your pain.

Most of the pain on our front sides is referred from our back sides (logically inbetween as well).
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.
Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.
The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).
For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

I hope he checked your heart for starter. Second do you get worse after certain foods. Gallbladder attack can also have the same effect. But on the bright side my best friend use to get similar pains. She was checked everywhere and came up with nothing. We called it the mysterious b--b pain. Weird, i hope you feel better soon. If it gets worse go to ER!

I would say it was your gallbladder. I have the same pain and was diagnosed with having gallstones after having a scan. Since then i have had the gallbladder removed.

the doc should have given you a diagnosis. Go to another doctor if possible. It could be your gall bladder, or other things.

It sounds like you could have ripped / strained the muscles by your ribs and back. Have you recently injured or strained it? have you had a bad cough? smetimes coughing can rip cheast muscles.
