Alright, I'll narrow my topic down abit.

Basically I'm looking for problems people who are wheelchair users or physically disabled people such as blindness, deafness, armless etc. I wanted to know what problems they met.

And also dementia elderly.

I need feedbacks/answers like mlgable and charlie 's. I need real life examples/situations they met.

Thank you!

Since the "real life" examples that you mention appear to involve people with dementia and physical disabilities who are older, I would highly recommend that you connect with your local Area Agency on Aging. These groups listen to and work with seniors and their caregivers every day. The focus of their work is to solve problems so that older Americans--and caregivers of older Americans with disabilities--can live with maximum dignity and with maximum independence. These groups also work closely with family caregivers of your older friends and neighbors who have dementia and disabling conditions. They would likely be able to direct you to caregivers who would be willing to talk with you and to information that would be helpful to you as you work on this project.

You can connect with your local Area Agency on Aging by calling 1-800-677-1116--they will give you the contact number of your Area Agency on Aging. When you call your local Area Agency on Aging, ask for the person who handles the Family Caregiver Program or the person who handles "Information and Assistance."

I hope this is helpful somehow. Best wishes on your project!

That's a really broad topic. Considering that there are so many different forms of physical and mental disability and also of dementia, it would probably be useful to narrow your question down a bit. Are you interested in learning specifically about Down's Syndrome? Fetal alcohol syndrome? Alzheimer's disease?

Also, disabilities are very different from dementia and i don't know that it's useful to lump the two categories together like that for your project.

My great grandmother has dementia actually and she still has half of her memory, she cannot control her balv movements nor can she walk onher own. Technically dementia is another form of alheimers just not as severe. She does not seem to hear or listen and stares off into space, she wont go out anywhere anymore. This is all i can say for much on dementia there may be more but you would need to look it up on the web or medical books.

Dementia is chronic, global, usually irreversible deterioration of cognition. Diagnosis is clinical; laboratory and imaging tests are used to identify treatable causes. Treatment is supportive. Cholinesterase inhibitors can sometimes temporarily improve cognitive function.
Please see the web pages for more details on Dementia.

Dementia I am real familiar with as I have worked in nursing homes for 33+ years. Some of the problems they meet is not being able to get the spoon to the mouth when feeding themself, not being able to remember the right word for an item, not knowing how to tell someone they need to go to the bathroom, being combative with cares because of something in their past but they can't tell you what is causing their fear. No remembering how to dress themselves, difficulty chewing because of having rotten teeth, being in pain but can't tell you they are in pain. There are tons more too numerous to list.
