The reason it is written in reverse in the front so you can read it in your rear view mirror when the emergency vehicle is behind you.

Well being a retired Chicago Fire Medic, I can explain like this,. If you are driving in front of me, and you look through your rear view mirror, you will see my HOOD and read it correctly. You will see the word AMBULANCE the right way.. This is the purpose of that what looks to be weird. Try it some time. If you have a small mirror, stand in front of an ambulance put the mirror in front of you
and look. You will see it correctly.

So that when someone is looking in their rear view mirror they can read that the vehicle behind them is an ambulance. Otherwise, if it wasn't it would be backwards in the mirror, and harder to read.

if it werent reverse you couldnt read it properly through the rear view mirror.words are in reverse order when you look through a mirror think about it. so it has to be written in that order for you to read it right.
