I would spend 8 to 9 bucks on a box from wal-mart.

It absolutely depends on your market! I've lived all over the country, and in New York and L.A., you are most certainly going to pay a heck of a lot more than, let's say, Jacksonville, FL, where I am now. When I shop for a stylist, I look for several factors, including local reputation of the salon, word-of-mouth from gals with fantastic color that looks natural, how many years a stylist has in the business, and pricing of local competitors in the same echelon. In major markets, I've paid anywhere from $150 to $300 for high and low lights (partial most times, full foils when needed), although I've seen it priced higher at some "celebrity" salons that, frankly, I cannot afford, but where I live now, I can do the same for $75 to $125, because that's the going rate around here. In some small towns, I've seen it go waaaaay less! My advice? Find out what the people who you consider to be your peers in the biz are charging, and price yourself accordingly. Also, remember, people always love to feel like they are getting a great deal, so if you do end up raising your pricing, do so gradually so your clients won't feel like they're getting gouged. Good luck!

I live in Colorado and I pay about $100.00 with tip for a cut and a highlight. But I also get double highlight with red and blonde. The lady that I go to is a master colorist too. Well worth the money, I also have chin length hair.

I know everyone starts at $75 but I think that's just way to much. I have short hair and I don't think I should have to pay that much, for my length the most I would pay is $40-$50 and that's it.

I have long hair, maybe $80 for highlights? A hair cut and all over dye for me is like $55ish (Not highlights, but just a reference) for me.. At a nice salon.
