I have a pomeranian. She's been getting sick to her stomach at night. She also feels really hot and clammy. This is weird for a dog because they don't usually sweat. She seems normal maybe a little tired. But it just scares me because when I pick her up her skin on her belly is really warm. I can even feel the heat through the hair on her back. I'm really worried, but a vet visit is really expensive. She could've eaten something funny because she picks everything up off the floor. She isn't spayed, she weighs about 6 pounds and she'll be 4 in May. I just would like to know if puppies get feavers like humans..

thanks

Ok, I think you all got the wrong idea. She's not like laying down and moping. She's up running around and happy. She's just hot and tends to have stomach aches and throwing up a few nights in the past month. I don't know, but when I make sure my dad (he is not really all there sometimes) doesn't give her table scraps she's just fine. But it's just the warmness I'm worried about. But again she is happy and running, playing howling barking like she always does.

she might have an intolerance to some food that you are feeding her? make a list of things that you feed her daily and when she is sick try and trace it back to something that she has eaten, if she is only a small dog sometimes the food that we feed the is too rich for their little stomachs to digest. Did you get her from a known breeder with papers? if not then you should get her checked out by a vet as she might have something wrong with her from interbreeding although she is 4 you can never be sure. If you phone your local dogs home and tell them that you cant afford the vets fees then they should be able to supply you with a number of a vets that don't overcharge they just charge you for the medicine and not their time. Don't know where you live but in the uk they have that. I hope your pup gets better soon x

Being that she is an unspayed adult, it could be a pyometra, it comes in a "closed" form that doesn't drip and an "open" form that does. Either form can rupture and cause death (like appendicitis in people can). That's the worst case scenario. If she's not current on her vaccines and has been around other dogs (like to the park) she could have picked up an infectious disease or parasites. Some diseases she can pick up off of wild animals in her own backyard (like Leptospirosis). If you have a rectal thermometer, a temperature above 101.5 F is a fever. Generally the higher the fever the more serious it is.

You say she picks up stuff from the floor, there could be a foreign object in her belly causing problems. Pennies have zinc inside them and can poisin animals, so if it's possible that she swallowed a penny, that's an emergency too.

Now it could be as simple as her belly is empty too long, especially if she throws up clear or yellow foam, and in that case you can feed her dinner later or give a small bedtime snack. But if you are worried about it, then not going to the vet is a risk.

This sounds pretty serious. She has the symtoms of pyometra. This is a curable, but expensive treatment. If you don't get her to a vet, she will , I'm sorry to say it, not survive. Pyometra is a very bad infection of the uterus. Another reason to have a female spayed. The infection causes a high fever, and vomiting. Does she have any puss coming from her vulva? That's another sign, but not always. This can be fixed by getting her to a vet for emergancy surgery to spay her, and a course of antibiotics. Don't move her if you don't have to, and be incredibly gentle if you do. You don't want the uterus to rupture. I hope I haven't frightened you too much, but she needs to get to a vet right now. I hope she doesn't have what I think she does, but either way she needs a vet. When an animal is so tiny like a Pom, they can easily and quickly become dehydrated when they're vomitting or have diarhea. Then you have another problem on your hands you don't need. Good luck to you both. :)

Please do take her to the vet. I'm betting that if you think a vet visit is too expensive you probably haven't paid to have her annual jabs either, and if she goes outside she could pick up other diseases from other dogs. And by the way, early diagnosis of problems is usually less expensive that later diagnosis!

Pomeranians can make lovely pets. My Aunt & Uncle had 2 that both lived to be 18 years old, so as long as you put all good input into your dog, in care, and money, she could be with you a long time. It sounds like you might need to take up a small job at the weekend, just to put enough money aside for her care.

there is some house veterinarian clinic by using the yellow phone book and you can find some places that does have the doctors open so late at night . its can be small buinesses that does take care of sick and injured pets and another animals for needed. might try to call them see if how much they do cost and how long does they do open daily. thats in youre own town areas or even has one in youre state. and you should always try to clean around youre place or even up things off the floors so that next time youre puppy wouldnt able feel so ill or even end up choking with something that will harm her health. oh yes , all pets does get sick any ways if its a running noses, itching eyes, earachs. fevers. pains like humans get . dogs and cats does act like kids and people . you can try to also check with the pet shop cause they do sell and take care of sick animals by giving you a medicans to help youre puppy to get better. instead that you cant able go to the veterinany clinic yet .

AHHH! The full details now-Dogs have very sensitive stomachs and any abrupt change in their diet can cause them to be "sick", This includes indulging in "people food" especially if given in quantities too large for their stomaches. Any change in their diet should be made gradually-over a period of a week or so. Table scraps -especially if they have food allergies (yep, dogs get that too)- can make a dog sick. Also, some dogs are very sensitive to RED food dye which will cause them to get sick. Since she's her "normal self" I would suspect its your father who is sneaking her table scraps that is the culprit. Keep an eye on her behavior anyway. If she shows signs of not feeling good then its a good idea to have her checked out. Also, if a dog eats a big meal (especially table scraps that they only get occasionally) be sure to allow food to digest before she does any "running around" etc.About an hour after she eats would be safe to have her do her normal running, jumping, etc.

a vet visit may be expensive but this is a life we are talking about here... you owe it to your dog to get her looked at IMMEDIATELY. there could be a multitude of things wrong. it may be something simple like a food allergy hence why she is getting sick every night, but it may be something more serious. either way she needs to be looked at NOW.

i don't know if you work or not, but regardless, there are organisations out there such as the PDSA which will vet-check your dog/animals for free if you are on benefits, or for a small fee if you are in employment/depending on your hours worked/salary depends on the fee you will be charged, but still cheaper than a general vet.
the longer you leave her, the worse it could get and she may very well die. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but that's the score.

dogs, when ill can be costly things. but if you had a child and was being ill, such as your dog is, would you leave him/her to suffer? i wouldn't imagine so.

show your dog the love she shows you and get her some emergency assistance immediately.

i have had this problem with the very warm stomach, from the vets mouth it means the blood is running flowing, the stomach is the "area", so needs blood flowing around. maybe the house is warm if the dog is sweating, dogs love fresh air, in fact many love to live outside. when you have a dog it is important thjat when you see the dog picking stuff off the floor you immediately stop this otherwise the dog will think it is right to do so. i dont think dogs get feevers though. good luck.....

give the vet a call dont cost much for a fone call and tell him what is what and exsplaine that you dont have a lot of money and that you are worried and see if you can pay over a longer time perhaps your dad has given the dog nuts or something or grapes they are bad for dogs keep a close eye on what the dog is getting given to him i know i think that vets are far to dear they never should be allowed to charge the prices they charge i took my pup to vet and a bottle of eye drops cost me in all £38 and its not rite its a complete rip of but they can charge what they like and its not rite good luck with your dog

I know vets can be expensive, but you should really get her checked out. Even if you don't take her to emergency tonight, call your vet in the morning and see if they can get you in on an appointment. You could even ask them if there is any way you can make payments on your bill if it is too much. And I don't know if you have this where you live, but in my area, we have some rescue organizations that people can call if their pet needs some kind of emergency treatment and they will pay for part of your bill depending on what/how much it is. It might not be as bad as you think, but they will be the only one's who can tell you what is really going on.
