I'm amazed at how Wikipedia seems to have something for just about every question or subject I can imagine.

If you have a moderate amount of curiosity you could certainly find an outlet for it on this site. Maybe I'm not as trapped as you are, but I definitely like Wikipedia.

Don't use it as a reference to work for college (when including citations for reports). Professors will not want it because the info on there is submitted by users of wikipedia. This is because they don't provide a reliable source from where they obtained the information.

Other than that yes it is great, I have learned alot from wikipedia.

I was watching Dateline tonight and they were talking about how unreliable the information is on Wikipedia because the content can be altered/updated/posted by anyone. Matter of fact, my professors won't even allow a student to cite an article from Wikipedia in their paper.

What's great about WIkipedia is that it combines credible articles that you'd expect from any encyclopedia with pop culture reference and current events. This makes it more comprehensive than any other reference material I've heard of. Also, the references and links given at the end of each article are super useful for further research. I say, you have nothing to be ashamed of if you start your research there.

me too. i've become sort of addicted to it. it's good because it's one of the only FREE online encyclopedias and it has entries on just about anything. the problem with it is that most of the info is from other websites and most of the entries are written by anyone, not a professional like at encyclopedia britannica. so be careful before you use wikipedia as a "scholarly source".

Wikipedia is great for at-your-fingertips knowledge, and it's very accurate. However, it's not the encyclopedia Britannica, it's not carefully refereed so it really should only be used as information, not fact. But it's got more info than any other encyclopedia by far.

it's a great place to start find general info on a lot of topics and i like it only because they actually give valid references for thier articles so you know it's not just random website. unfortunately they dont control who can alter the pages, so u shouldnt use it as a reference. i am also a grad student and professors definitely do not want us citing wiki as a source but if u dont know anything about the topic at all, it is a good place to get the general idea

I love wikipedia too. But I don't use it for school assignments. I only use it for looking up random information I'm curious about. My teachers don't want me to use that website because anyone can edit it.

I hate wikipedia. The fact that just anyone can edit it stinks. I once failed a history report using information from there. The dates were all wrong and they just had generally strange information.
