There are many kinds of baptism in the Bible. Baptism of repentance, in the name of of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, of the Holy Spirit and of fire. Jesus was baptized to fulfilled all righteousness and with the Holy Spirit. This I believe is to show that all who are born of Spirit like Jesus can also be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Yeshua was baptized, as our example of being Water Baptized; so that the Holy Spirit can be placed upon us.

When He came up out of the Water, the Spirit descended onto Him.

John the Baptist, who baptized Christ, asked that same question of Jesus before he baptized him. He told Jesus that it was Christ who should be baptising John, not the other way around. Jesus allowed Himself to be baptized in order to set the example for what He wants us to do. After He did that, God said aloud, "this is my Son, with whom I am well pleased".

When John the Baptist asked Jesus why he wanted him (John) to baptize him, Jesus responded that it was the law of the Jews and he did not want to offend anyone. Of course he did not need baptizing for forgiveness as he had done no wrong.

Jesus did it as an example to us. How could he tell us that we should not sin, and that we should be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, if he didn't do the same?

Jesus said he does the fathers will. He was told to do it. Also it helped John the Baptist know who he was preparing for because he said later that He must decrease and Jesus must increase. I'm sure he had lots of doubts in his mind, especially that Jesus was his cousin. He was told that the spirit would come down on the one he baptized and that was the sign of who he was preparing for.

Baptism is a public demonstration of faith and dedication to the doing of God's will.
It has nothing to do with sin.Other than those of us imperfect humans who wish to dedicate ourselves to Jehovah God must first repent and change our lives to be more in harmony with God's righteous standards.Of which,Jesus did not have a problem.
But we need to note that Jesus underwent total immersion and that he was at an age where he could make the decision to serve God.Unlike the churches of Christendom that insist on babies being baptised.

Matthew 3
13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Jesus wanted to set the example to show that all christians (note: ones who are already saved not unsaved) must be baptized. so he humbled himself to be the example. but it dont meen that if you just got saved and die the next day you wont go to heaven. being baptize doesnt give you a ticket to heaven you have to be saved to go to heaven.

Jesus left us a model to follow closely(1Peter2:21) and he got baptised for this reason and also to dedicate his life to God as well.
