NEVER BUY THE UPGRADE VERSION OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM! Upgrades colleect all the garbage in the rigester and what ever trash that is on the disk.

ALL WAYS DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM!

Disconnect from the Internet!

Your case: Put in your original XP disk, (Please do not say it is a RECOVERY disk) You cannot do a clean installation with a recovery disk!

Clean means DELETE ALL PARTITIONS, Recreat 2 partitions, one for 20GB. Format that partition in NTFS! (That is the CLEAN part of a NEW Install)

After the formant is complete then Windows start the installation and asks for the registration number! All of the above is for your original Operating System. After it completes, install motherboard drivers, anti virus, fire wall connect to internet. Go to www.microsoft.com - update.
Let this site update your system.

FDisconnect from Internet, Reboot with Windows XP, complete installation. Must give the new Registration number. Complete installation.

After installing anti virus and fire wall, connect to internet, go to www.microsoft.com for system update.

Look closer at the letters, numbers. Sometimes it very easy to misread them. Letters can look like numbers, Like I or 1. Your installation sounds okay. Microsoft will help you if all else fails. if you have a valid product, they will tell you what to do over the phone. Call their customer support. You could use a XP master key code (that works on all machines). They float around on the Internet, but since you have a valid product, I would obtain such a code from Microsoft. But like I said, check your numbers closely and see if you have a mistyped number or misinterpreted! I've had the same problem many times over the years, and it was always because I mistyped a number or letter.

Hi,
in this case, use the system restore disk that came with your pc and reload xp, just the operating system. have that key code ready when prompted. then, put your upgrade disc in and run install, having your key code for the upgrade cd. should work this time, accept the code. good luck!

OMG, i met the same error before. it's really annoying. I searched much on google and ms official site for this problem. none useful... felt sad.
then i posted a question on a forum, and one guy recommended Windows7onlinestore.com to me for a new key directly. and I did with little confidence.
Guess what happened? the key from Windows7onlinestore.com worked perfectly. they did help me a lot. their Sara mast be the most professional representative.
you can try to contact them with your question, and i believe she will help you resolve it immediately.
