Have you tried theraflu yet? That works wonders for me....Another thing you might want to try is drinking hot tea with honey and lemon...that will soothe your throat. Hope you get to feeling better:)

Blah...miserable. :( Try to get rid of the nose mucous first, because drainage can make a sore throat hurt a lot worse. Sounds like you have a cold, so don't use an antihistamine--make sure it's a decongestant, like sudafed or dayquil/nyquil cold/sinus. Try cough drops, which can also help soothe a sore throat even if you're not coughing. Some are specifically designed for sore throats, so look for that type. And I'd give up on the tylenol--sounds like that isn't working. Try drinking some hot tea or hot chocolate, and heat up some soup. For a quick fix for your stuffy nose, hop in a hot shower (or just sit in the bathroom with the door closed and a hot shower running). That will help loosen up your congestion. If you have or can get a vaporizer/humidifier, that will help as well. Keep it nearby, especially at bedtime. Dry air will just make your cold worse.
Good luck, and get well!

Gargling with salt water is a great thing to do for your throat. You may not see instant results but after a couple days of consistency you will. I have found that DayQuil works awesome, sudafed helps with your nose. There are some certain medicines out there specifically for sore throats, ya just gotta get one or two and see which works best with you.

You do need to see a doctor to make sure that you don't have an infection that needs antibiotics. Be sure to get a doctor's advice in order to prevent more serious symptoms later.
Cepastat lozenges are wonderful to quell sore throat pain.
Hot tea - like Lipton - with caffine help open up your lungs. Chew Altoid Peppermints to help open your nose. Vicks Nasal Inhalers help also.
Meanwhile - Cinnamon is antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal. Just a quarter teaspoon 2 or 3 times a day can kill off weak infections. I mix it in peanut butter and honey and smear it on apples when I feel sick.
Honey is also soothing.
China Jasmine Tea is wonderfully healing for throats, especially when it gets difficult to speak.
Make sure to stay in - stay warm - drink plenty of fluids to wash that bug outta your system - take your Tylenol - get lots of sleep and call your doctor in the morning!!!
Take care of you, hon. Be well.
Peace. --De

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Drink a mix of hot water and lemon juice and, if you're feeling hardcore, a crushed garlic clove. It's not as bad as it sounds, and the lemon and garlic have antiseptic properties.
Or drink a hot toddy. Brew some strong tea. Add a lot of sugar, some lemon juice, and as much whiskey as you want. The lemon juice and hot tea will help your throat, and the whiskey will get you to sleep despite runny noses, aching muscles, and any cough you might have.

Your throat is probably sore for the mucus dripping down the back of your throat. Take something for the dripping (like benedryl)--- I'm not sure I spelled that right : ). Until you control the dripping, your throat will probably continue to hurt. You can try a cough drop or throat spray, but that will only give you temporary relief.

if you have taken those steps and your throat is still that sore and your nose is still stuffed up then for God's sake get to the Doctors
There is a time for self medication and then there is the time when you logically listen to your body and use the medical facility called a G.P. If you have a good one, then he is not going to prescribe antibiotcs unless required. Everyone should find themselves a good G.P. , it is just a matter of knowing what questions to ask and having the courage to ask them.

Sore throat-Put chamomile flowers (or chamomile tea bags) in a bowl with hot water. Soak a towel in the tea water and ring it out really well. Then, place the towel around the front of your neck -- make sure it isn't too hot! -- and directly on your throat to soothe the pain
