my 2 yr old cat is in labor, and i dont know anything about feline labor. she had her first kitten around 9:00pm but hasnt had any since. its almost 12:30 pm now, and i was wondering if it is possable for her to just have one?? i always thought they have kittens in litters. and she keeps getting out of the box i have her in, leaving the kitten by itself, and following me all over the house. im not sure what i should do. HELP!

Yes, it is possible, albeit unusual, for a cat to have a litter of one. I'd suggest calling your local humane society or veterinarian for advice.

Yes, it is possible to have just one - but my females always took a while getting all of them here. I spent a lot of time sitting nearby. Beat an egg in some milk and let her drink it while in the box with the kitten. It will help her produce good quality milk, and settle down.

When she is laying down, gently rub her stomache and then hold your hand there. See if you feel any additional movement.

The difficult part is if she has any still born kittens. You will need to take her to the vet in the morning for help. Do you feel any kitten sized masses? ...It's rare, but does happen. I pray that isn't your situation.

Just be loving and attentive - and lose a little sleep... and it should be just fine.

I wish you luck... and look forward to knowing how things work out.
Peace! --De

Well you should quit wandering around the house and stay w/ her so she'll settle down and finish, and feed the kitten that she has had... She might just have one.. You should contact the vet if she doesn't have another within the next 1/2 hour or so, she might be having trouble. Does she seem distressed?? Have you tried helping the kitten to feed??
Maybe you should have read a book before you bred her??

Julanne,
Shes a little nervous. put a pillow and a blanket by her and go to sleep,if you can. Sometimes it takes a while. She isn't hungry or thirsty right now.She just feels better if you are near.Don't let her outside to finish the job but clean her kitty box in case she chooses to have kittens in there! If she is still in labor now she isn't done. good luck sweetie.I think if you settle down she might too.

Yes it is possible to only have one but it is also possible to go many hours before the next on(not common but possible)also she wants you to stay with her because she is scared.Give her a dark spot with her baby (like a closet and lock her in when you leave her.make sure there is water and food and a litter box in that room also not the spot where she is with baby though but available

Let nature take its course and she will be fine. Just leave her alone and you'll see by morning how many she had. She'll figure out how to have them and how to start caring for them. And, yes, it is possible she could only have one. Good luck!

sit with her she wants you with her. Take the kitten and put it to moms teat and see if she'll drink if not you may have to give it replacer and call the vet- there maybe one stuck in her pelvic bone.
