Is Islam really a form of ancient moon worship?

2007-03-06 16:16:31 · 26 answers · asked by Deep Sky 1 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

FACTS

1 – We see crescent moons on mosques
2 – Muslims observe the LUNAR calendar
3 – Muslims worship in similar fashion to ancient moon worshippers.

And of course, the famous historical findings of the truth of allah, the moon idol.

So, despite all these pointers, muslims DENY islam is moon worship? I suppose this is just another instance where muslims deny Muhammad was a pedophile for having sex with a biologically underaged girl, and deny Muhammad was a great sinner for speaking up for satan as in Ishaq 166, and deny Islamic terror when the non-contextual q’uran reeks of terrorist dogma.

Is islam a religion of DENIALS?

Cos I don't see any other reasonable explanation on WHY anyone with even a tinge of sanity would want to embrace islam.

Please enlighten me.

Muslims only know how to avoid the question by picking on one minor point instead of seeing the whole picture. That's the whole problem with islam.

If they could see these points as a WHOLE and not just as independent points, they would know where the arrow is pointing.

People who counter claim with the cross case are thoroughly dumb. That's like saying you are indian because you wear the turban!

Hey, wearing the turban ALONE does not make you an indian, but if you wear the turban, talk indian language AND sings the indian anthem, you are 99% indian.

THAT"S LOGIC....but I guess the muslims STILL DON'T GET IT.

Apparently unlike the rest of the posters, I read the article and found it very interesting. I have always talked about how the pagan traditions were applied to Islam when it stated, just as with Judaism and Christianity. Each culture absorbed pagan rituals.

However, with Islam, it seems that Muhammad only added a few rules to an existing religion to give it some formality and organization. Judaism in the same light was a religion of a certain group of tribes with a common god who recorded fantastic stories from their oral tradition.

All major world religions most definitely do not have the same god, as a scholar of any will let you know. Each holy book contradicts the other in their descriptions and definitions of god, with too great of rifts to be reconciled.

They do not worship the cross. The moon is precise way of keeping traffic of time. Unlike the calendars that Europeans have used for many years - where we need to add and subtract days. Instead, using the moon cycles works fine.

Arab Christians, the original Christians, used the moon also for keeping dates.

Islam is a varriation of Judaism and Christianity. That is pretty clear be it that they worship the same God as Jews and Christians, believe in the Virgin Birth of Christ, believe Christ never sinned, believe Christ went to Heaven from Earth in body and spirit still alived, that Mary never sinned, and that they we have all the same prophets before teh birth of Christ.

If that is moon worshipping, than Christianity is based off of moon worship too. I do not consider the first Christians to be Christians.

And of His portents are the night and the day and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or the moon; but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if it is in truth Him Whom ye worship.

He it is Who appointed the sun a splendour and the moon a light, and measured for her stages, that ye might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah created not (all) that save in truth. He detaileth the revelations for people who have knowledge.

Hast thou not seen that unto Allah payeth adoration whosoever is in the heavens and whosoever is in the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the hills, and the trees, and the beasts, and many of mankind, while there are many unto whom the doom is justly due. He whom Allah scorneth, there is none to give him honour. Lo! Allah doeth what He will.

A religion of denials??
We don't Worship the Moon, we see it as a means of Allah's many creations that determines the month, time, and how old the moon is which has all to do with the Islamic Calender..
We pray to Allah and Mohammad as his messenger (pbuh).. That's it, no worshiping of any other creation or thing.. Only Allah and his Messengers.

I shake my head in disappointment at this question.

Please research Islam with an open mind. I am not telling you to convert but honsestly your question shows that your intent is to do nothing more than run something other than your own way of life in the mud.

It is statements like these that caused me to research Islam, I was raised Christian, and I ma now converting.

I care for everyone as I am instructed to do by God.

Search your heart for what is troubling you.

Oh and about the Moon, the creation of various cellestial bodies are described in great detail in the Qur'an.

Salaam

The book says to worship no image or other god, Moon sure fits those. Just like many religions, they ignore the instruction manual that keeps them from the lies and deception. For they listen to the man or church that preaches these words, instead of doing their own studies. For once again, the book says to put no thing between you and Him. Yet a preacher, minister, church are all between you. And worshiping a preacher/minister is back to, thou shall not worship another god nor image before me.

Many, MANY need to relook at the book and realize where they stand. For I have yet to see any church follow the book, as the book, but instead as their interpretation to fit their needs, wants, desires. A human act

No, Islam is not "moon worship" Muslims worship the same God as do Jews and Christians--"Allah" is just the Arabic word for God.

You "don't see any other reasonable explanation?"--why don't you try learning about the history and beliefs of Muslims before you start inventing stories about them?

Crescent moon was a symbol of the Ottoman Empire. Just because we follow Lunar calendar means we worship moon? I know whom I worship, I don't need to learn from your stupid ideas. Oh by the way why do you worship computer? You are using it, so you must be worshiping it. Just applying your thinking, sounds pretty stupid heh?

(following your analogy) Do you worship the Cross † ?

Some non-Muslims mistakenly believe that Allah is an "Arab god," a "moon god," or some sort of idol. Allah is the proper name of the One True God, in the Arabic language.

Allah is NOT a moon god.
Moon is the creation of God.
Allah is another name of God.
