Belief is just part of it. (BTW, there is no John 2:50.) James 2:19 'You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder.' There are a lot of verses about salvation throughout the new testament; some about salvation in general, some of how to become saved, some about what it takes to stay saved.
To 'become' saved - here is what I believe:
(1) Believe in God and Jesus, meaning you believe Jesus was physically alive, died, and was literally resurrected;
(2) Choose to repent, meaning you will as of now make every effort to stop sinning (doesn't mean you will be perfect, just that you will do your best), start doing right - i.e. pray, read your Bible, love people (even people who don't love you back), try to serve & help others, help folks become Christians, etc.
(3) Make a public confession about your faith decision... for me, it was 'Jesus is Lord' in front of about 15 campus folks. It's kind of like having witnesses for a wedding.
(4) Get baptized for the forgiveness of your sins... not just a symbol, not just a ritual... it's your 'I do' with God.
(5) Start walking the walk, enjoying a great relationship with God... Jesus' blood continues to cleanse even as we mess up (I John 1:7).
I'll give you a big list... don't freak out and look at it in the sense of 'all the things I would have to do.' I could look at marriage in the same way. But I got married because I love my wife... somebody should become a Christian for the same reason. This list is to help provide a fuller sense of what salvation means.

Oy, sorry this list was so long - I just wanted to give you some resources and show that this subject is both simple and complex at the same time.

There is no John 2:50 (Only 25 verses) There are several verses which say if you "believe in Him" you are saved. That doesn't just mean believing in His existence or even acknowledging Him as Lord. He said" Not all those who call me Lord will be saved but those who do the will of My Father" (Matthew 7: 21) Believing in Him means trusting in Him . Trusting in Him means obeying Him. So faith and works go hand in hand. Those who would choose darkness over light are those who do not follow and believe. See John 3:16-21

There is no John 2:50 in the Bible. Yes there are many verses in the Bible, but if you just read one verse, you will take it out of context. When I read the Bible, I see many conditions to salvation. The Bible also says that the devil and his demons believe in God and they even tremble, but we know that they have no salvation. Jesus said that only those who endure to the end will receive the crown of eternal life.

Picking just one verse in the bible can sometimes become tricky. Like the one you just quoted.
Let me give you one scenario...
Many modern-day preachers would shout - - "Accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour and you shall be saved"! Sounds easy, doesn't it? Is that all? If this is their way to salvation, we shall see only few people in hell, and heaven shall be "standing room"!
Why? Because, Jesus is not one's personal Lord and Saviour! And no matter how hard you come and believe in Jesus, if it was not the Father's initiative, all our efforts will come to naught.
John 6:44 says...
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
God is man's personal Saviour not Jesus. It is God who will bring us first to Jesus, and he will raise us up in the last day.
If I only have more time to share you more...
Peace from God be upon you...

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. Only those who do what my Father in heaven wants will enter."
22 “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord! Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we drive out demons in your name? Didn’t we do many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them clearly, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who do evil!’"
John 2:50? No such passage. What are you referring to?
The ONLY book in the New Testament which TELLS you how to BECOME a Christian or tells you what people DID when they BECAME CHRISTIANS is ACTS. STUDY IT to learn what you need to do... "What the father wants" from Matt 7:21ff.
Acts 2:36 “So be sure of this, all you people of Israel. You nailed Jesus to the cross. But God has made him both Lord and Christ.”
37 When the people heard this, their hearts were filled with shame. They said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
38 Peter replied, “All of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then your sins will be forgiven. You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children. It is also for all who are far away. It is for all whom the Lord our God will choose.”
The answer is still the same.

the bible says to repent (which is a turning from) and be saved. "for whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved" You have it a little backwards...If you accept Jesus then you will want to give it all up. "old things are passed away and behold all things become new" hope this helps

I wish I knew the passage, but there is a short one, very short. Litterally says, Just ask Jesus to save you, and it shall be done.
