this is what the AKC Breed Standard says about Am Staffs>
Size
Height and weight should be in proportion. A height of about 18 to 19 inches at shoulders for the male and 17 to 18 inches for the female is to be considered preferable.

all AKC registered Am Staffs can be duel registered as UKC American Pit Bull Terriers.

so if he just grows 2 more inches, he will be perfect by breed standard...And, at 8 months, he is likely to grow a little more, and will certainly fill out more.

Dogs are about 75-90% of their adult height at 9 months of age, depending on the breed, so yes he still has some growing to do, and will fill out after he's grown up. Don't worry about it, he doesn't know he's short.

Most dogs don't fully mature until they are between 18 months and 2 years. He will definitely grow, but it might not be as big as you like. Pit Bulls aren't meant to me huge dogs anyway.

My Cocker Spaniel's parents were 25-30 lbs but she is 15 months old and weighs 17 lbs...the Vet said nothing wrong just her genes...we love her being on the small side. Your Pit Bull may also be a smaller one in the genes. You know, if you can't love him cause "he is too damn short", then please find him a home where someone will meet his needs.

The size of any dog depends greatly on the size of the others in the bloodline. Your dog will probably not grow much more in height, but his body will fill out more and he will become more muscular.

There are some pitbulls that have much smaller heads than some. It all depends on the blood lines and tha parents blood lines.

Of course, he is still a puppy.
This is why pitbulls shouldn't be bred.. Their breeders sell puppies without teaching people about the breed, and informing people about what they can expect.
