America is a nation based upon Judeo-Christian principles; however it is not a "Christian nation." The second amendment was written (and insisted upon) by the same people who founded the nation - Or, as it was said some 60 years after the Constitution and BoR were ratified, G-d created men; Sam Colt made men equal.

The handguns are for protection; it is a sad civilization that voluntarily gives up its right to protect itself with the best possible weapon at its disposal. I know firsthand that the police cannot be everywhere at once and that, properly wielded in the right situation, a handgun or rifle can save a life or prevent a crime. I personally take a handgun with me when I walk in my rural home area to protect myself against rabid and wild animals. This is a very real concern and has nothing whatsoever to do with Christianity. It has everything to do with skunks and raccoons and mad dogs that wander at will in the Tennessee woodlands. (I have witnessed two killings of rabid animals on my road in 7 years.) It is not a good idea to stray too far from home without the means to protect yourself. Is the rest of the world so built up and/or civilized that they have no rabid animals or wild home invaders?

P.S. To Mr. Religion, thanks for the obligatory Heinlein quote!

Too many people believe that we are a Christian Nation and need it that way. That is where the handguns come in (the Bible fits in here soemwhere).

America was founded by people who believed you should have a choice in religion and not have the government taking it away from you.

The handguns are for those who want to take away your freedoms. Even Christians aren't required to role over and just take it.

have you ever been to texas....hahahaha....this is not a christian nation...or maybe it is and that is why it is so corrupt... Christians are a horrible representation of Christ and Christianity in general, but if you say a Christian nation as in what Americans portray christianity to be, then yes america is a christian nation, and the handguns are to do away with any who dont agree with their beliefs....haha

The 2 are not related. It is a matter of freedom and one of choice. The bad guys will always have guns no matter what country you live in. Letting the citizenry have guns legally just evens the playing field.
Guns are used for sport and America have always loved their hunting and clubs etc. Shooting little clay targets never hurt anyone.
I was just in Uruguay and there is a cop on every corner with a sub machine gun even at McDonalds, I have the picture to prove it. Sooo I would ask why is that ..not for show..Their crooks have guns!!

Yes, it is. And the handguns? To shoot them nonbelievers with bullets of Jesus love.

47% of adults in the US claim to be born-again or evanelical.

A good book on this subject (and source of above fact) is The Sinner's Guide to the Evangelical Right.
