I have Nikon D50. Which is a great camera. From everything I have heard and read, the processor inside of the Rebel is not sufficient which results in some slight color variations. You can't go wrong with a Nikon.

There's a reason why 94% of professionals use Canon. Also, lenses are cheaper, easier to find, and available in a much greater variety. Digic processors are very advanced. If color variation is your concern you should be shooting in RAW or you should get yourself a Sigma SD-9 or SD-10.

If you only plan to shoot with one camera and one lens, get whatever you feel the most comfortable with. If you plan on doing some real intricate photography, get a Canon.
