if you are getting the same stylist to fix it and if you didnt ask for what you ended up with the first time or you feel it was really the stylist's mistake, then no you are not obligated in any way to tip, if you get a different stylist to fix your color for you, then you should tip because chances are you wont be paying again for the color correction, right?
Tipping in a hair salon is NEVER mandatory.
and hairstylist could never live on tips alone, we do not make a low income by any means. Most of us charge so much for color if we never recieved another tip we would be just fine.

No unless the person who fixes the color is
A not the original colorist
B does a really good job and you can imagine going back to them.
You especially do not have to tip if the person who fixes the color is the owner of the salon, in theory they do not get tips/

You never HAVE to tip. Its more along the lines of if you feel obligated to tip. If I was the hairdresser and knew you felt that way I would be prepared to NOT get tipped. Someone who works in that field knows that unhappy customers generally don't tip. Just as a customer, make sure you consider what lead to this. Did you see the color and agree to it before they did it, or was it completely their fault and they told you to trust them? If you chose the color, it really isn't their fault, they were just trying to make you happy by giving you what you want and they shouldn't be punished for that.

If you are returning to the same colorist slightly decrease the tip but still give them one. If you are going to a different colorist give them a regular tip. You aren't tipping the salon, you're tipping the specific person. Alot of them rely on tips for money since they receive a lower base salary.

As a hairdresser this question is negotiable. If the color is what you asked for, then yes, you should tip. If it is wrong and the stylist knows it for the start, then he or she should not accept a tip or other payment. A satisfied customer is worth much more than dollars and cents.

If you get it done at a Beauty School they will do it for free happily because they know it happens. Plus they are 100x cheaper then the other salons.
There are instructors there to supervise the students that way they dont mess up so I always go there and have been really pleased.

Simply, NO ! They've already collected your money and I assume you tipped them the first time around. Plus, it's not going to do your hair any good to have to be recolored. You're the one with the short end of the stick so I wouldn't let 'em stick it to me again. Good luck !

Yes. I always tip, even if they're fixing a problem or re-doing something. I think Emily Post would agree.
