Myself and 3 girlfriends are travellling to LA and are trying to decide which hostel to stay at we have shortened the list to
Orbit Hostel - 7950 Melrose ave
USA hostel Hollywood - 1624 Schrader Boulevard
which is closer to all the action?? we are interested in going to some hot LA clubs! we'd prefer to be in a safe area

USA Hostel is closer to the action. It's within walking distance to a lot of cool Hollywood bars, clubs and restaurants. It's safe if you are careful and exercise common sense.
Orbit Hostel is in a part of town generally considered to be safer,but there aren't as many happenin' places around there. There's some great shopping to be had, but all the action is in Hollywood these days.
