How do you find peace in a place that depresses & angers a person so much?

Every time I begin to read my Bible, so I can better myself & understand life I end up being depressed, angered, and feeling like I am an abomination & pretty much worthless.

What I don’t understand is how I am suppose to believe & have faith in a God that does nothing but makes me feel like I am an abomination to him no matter how much I completely give my life to him I am dammed if I do and dammed if I don’t.

Can some one help me understand why this is happening to me ?

Perhaps you are one of the people who isn't suited for Christianity. This is not a criticism or a negative judgement -- there are hundreds of religions (in which the members have as profound a relationship with their Gods as Christians do with Jesus), and no one faith is right for everyone.

May I respectfully suggest that you take the following quiz:

to see if there is another religion or philosophical system that would suit you better? It's an interesting exercise, and it matches you up with quite a few different choices based on your answers. The results can be very surprising.

Myself, I belong to a religion where we believe that mankind never "fell" and hence is not inherently worthless; we value each and every human being as a manifestation of the Divine presence... even the ones we don't personally like very much. ;-)

I wish you the best of luck in your search for a faith that helps you realize what a worthwhile person you truly are.

Yes, I can help you understand why this is happening to you. You are beginning to understand why some people do not believe the bible and the god it describes. You are reacting as I once did. I had a terrible time trying to reconcile the god of the bible and reality, until I decided that the god of the bible probably does not exist, and reality is very much real.

You have a choice. You can be sane and happy and allegedly burn in eternal hell, or you can be tortured and unhappy and hope for an alleged afterlife in heaven.

I felt really bitter and angry toward God for setting us up for failure here on earth. And, I felt that heaven would not be heaven if my family was not there with me (I'm the only person babtized in my whole family) Then, I found "Conversations With God" by Neale Donald Walsch. It changed my life. I am so much happier now, I have nothing but love and good feelings toward our Creator. Maybe it can answer some of your questions too. Peace to you.

Try having a relationship with God. The peace of God is a tangiable thing. I feel it everyday. I'm not Christian - but I do know it's possible.

God loves you - even in the Christian view. Some Christians believe that you have to feel like complete filth before you can be saved. But in reality - all you have to do is love God. For in love, comes repentence. There is no shame, no self loathing. Just sorrow for past wrongs and limitless hope for the future.

Personally, I believe that you are feeling ashamed before God. That God is watching everything you do - and nothing you have done so far is right. Stop concentrating on trying to be perfect, or the model Christian. Instead, be who God created you to be. Talk to God, ask God for help to find yourself.

I believe God created out of love to love. There is no lost creation and we are not abominations. Do not give in to your emotions, instead turn to God and allow yourself to be yourself.

maybe you should put all of your time and energy into making yourself feel better and if this is the way you are feeling reading the bible then maybe give it away for a while. it also sounds a little like depression when i feel down i get out in the sunshine and do heaps of exercise and if it is depression i don't think a book about a man being nailed to a cross is the most mood enhancing read and is bound to make you feel down or sad.

Read the Gospel of John. Then read Philippians 4:8.
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. -Romans 8: 1-2 Maybe you need to know Jesus personally first.

I felt that way too when some difficult things happened in my life, and I tried to handle them with spiritual tools, meaning literature and prayer.

What helped me was to get into the service of others. I volunteered to help some battered women, to help tutor some kids, and visit some shut ins. It got me out of myself and helping others.

Try it. Put your faith into action.

you must not be reading the parts about God's love and grace, about the part where God sent his Son, even though you are a sinful man, to die for your sins. The part where God says he will always be there for you. It makes me smile.

do you know, there is not one biblical character who perfectly lived up to biblical standards. not one. they all made mistakes, often big ones. yet they were still called "righteous". the reason is because perfection isn't expected of you - it's impossible. all that's expected of you is good intentions and hard work.
