From what I understand sat fat from a plant (such as coconut oil, palm oil, palm kernel oil) are NOT hydrogenated and therefore are better for you than reg vegetable shortenings/margarine etc -....Also these plant based fats also have other health benefits (do a search for benefits of coconut oil and red palm oil for more info) ...Plant based sat fats also are TRANS FAT FREE.....many people use coconut oil as a daily supplement taking 2 to 4 tablespoons a day for the healthy benefits...coconut oil and palm oil are solid at room temperature like shortenings are....coconut oil has a low smoke point and therefore cannot be used for deep frying but palm oil has a high smoke point and CAN be used for deep frying...organic cold pressed or expeller pressed is best if using either of these....Also these contain short and medium chain fatty acids and are not used the body the same as other vegetable oils (like safflower, canola etc) they are NOT stored as fat in the body and therefore have been known to help WITH fat loss when on a diet....PLUS they have less calories than reg "fats" average oil (canola etc) contain 9 calories -- coconut and palm contain 6.5 calories....I personal only use these in my daily cooking and no longer use other oils for the most part with the exception of occasional olive oil....
I have listed a few links to help you with your search.....

Animal based fats have not only Sat Fats but ALSO have TRANS FATS!!!! so should be limited.....
