First do the following yogic exercise called Bhastrika Pranayanam everyday for 1 week and if still your asthma continues then see a doctor:-
Sit crossed legged and close your mouth and take a quick inhaling and exhaling 20 times and then the 21st time take a deep breath and hold it as long as possible and then release it slowly through the nose. Take a few minutes rest breathing normally and start the exercise once again . Do this three or four times in one sitting. You can have any number of sittings a day as time permits you and this .is known as Bhastrika Pranayanam ( breathing exercise, very best and must as this controls BP, improves circulation of blood whole through the body, prevent lung diseases, increases the brain power, will never get cough or cold or asthma and controls your anger and other violent emotions, brings in crimson complextion to the face, gives you sound sleep etc, etc)

Not to undermine the good nurse but I don't think he/she is qualified to make such a diagnosis. For your own peace of mind, go see your family doctor (or any doctor)...request for an examination and tell the good doctor what's bugging you (no need to mention the asthma thing coz he should be able to see that in the examination). Now if indeed you have asthma, either the doctor himself would handle the treatment, or will refer you to a specialist (in your case, an allergist).
SMILE!

in most cases a regular physcian can diagnose asthma and give you a perscription for medication or an inhaler or something. Why wouldn't you believe a nurse? I'm sure they went to school to learn about sickness and disease.

You need to see a doctor as soon as possible. A family physician will do. They can give medications and give advice to prevent exacerbation and complications. There are now medications available to prevent it from becoming recurrent. You have to know what causes it, although it is hereditary, it can now be controlled.

go to a general physician, if you have insurance it will probably cover a gp, he/she can refer you to a specialist if you do have it, and your insurance will cover it if you have a referal.
