A dead atheist is not an atheist any longer. Everyone believes in God when they are dead.
P.S. what is the record for "thumbs down"?

Another sad tale of intolerance. However, just because a man professes to be Christian, this does not automatically make this a Christian offense. He sounds like a crazy man and incapable of understanding or unwilling to understand what Christianity or humanity is about. Religion CAN do this to you if you let it, but if you are conscientious, you will not let it happen. There's no reason a person of any philosophical persuasion should have to suffer that, atheist or theist. But we are, alas, human, and this sort of thing happens too often.

God gave the commandment that We are not to kill. Someone who kills in this manner, saying it was what God wanted them to do, is evil and a liar and a murderer. These are not Christian people they are people who claim to be Christian and are not, there will be many who come before the Lord, Jesus on judgment day and he will say to them I never you, sorry to say but the same fate awaits a Atheist also. It is OK to hate another persons sin but as a Christian we are required to Love the sinner, so the way they treated you was evil, childish and uncalled for. If this guys whole family behaved this way, it makes me feel sorry for the guy who commited the murder, his family probably drove him to it, sounded like he went off his nut.

The killer got the least that he deserved. Apparently, it wasn't a possible sentence, but I'd've been happier if he'd ended up with life with no possibility of parole.
The "friends and family" were, to say the least, out of line. To say the most, they were guilty of assault. There is no excuse for that behavior.
With that out of the way, is this really the way you think all Christians behave? Yes, there are Christians who are certifiable. There are atheists who are certifiable. If Shelton hadn't been Christian, he would've ended up in trouble some other way. I'm quite willing to believe that atheists face persecution for their - uh - lack of faith, but I assure you that believers of all types face persecution for their faith, too. This does not mean that all atheists are nuts - just some of them. Similarly, not all Christians are nuts - just some of them.

The saddest part is that they attempted to let him serve only 12 or something years. This guy is obviously ready to kill another atheist, so shouldn't he be put in prison for life? I don't believe in the death penalty but in this case I would make and acception. If he were to be roomed with an atheist in his cell, he would without hesitation kill him and any other person.

THESE PEOPLE ARE SICK!!! I don't mean sick as in mentally ill either, I mean sick as in DISGUSTING!!!
As a Christian, I view such people as guilded manure. They are full of crap on the inside, and trying to hide it under a religious veneer. This is a demonic trick: that the unreligious or people without faith should be murdered "in God's name". This viewpoint doesn't stand up to a thourough reading of scripture.
My sympathies go out to Larry Cooper's family and friends, and his athiestic friends who were so harrassed and abused at the courtroom. I hope his murderer NEVER gets out of prison! Sounds like the whole family needs to be locked up!

First, I must have missed the reason for the atheist group being at this trial.
Second, they were dealing with a group of very strange, scary, sick people. Not Christians. Get real..please.
A whole lot of very strange, sick people live in this world. Christians cannot be blamed for strange sick people who claim to be Christian any more than atheists could be blamed for the actions of strange, sick atheists.

I don't think it is about a Christian who killed an atheist. It is a sad story about human nature. A man lost it and killed someone. It happens too often unfortunatetly. An employee gets fired, is upset and goes back and kills 6 employees.

Yes in my regular life I don't make it a point to tell people. I have been an atheist for 30 years and the worst thing I did was let it out in my small town high school.

When I see **** like this, I cannot fathom how people can say that Muslims are the only ones who take their religion to violent extremes. This has happened before. It is happening right now. Ignoring it doesn't make it any less true.

That is sick. If there was a God, I'm sure He would be deeply ashamed that these are the people who claim to speak for Him. They are repulsive, and delusional.
