I am going to have surgery to fix a deviated septum. The doctor also had a CAT scan done to see what else may be happening. The scan showed a huge cyst in my sinus area and mucus build up. The doc said the cyst would have to be removed and my sinuses would have to be drained. What exactly does it mean to have your sinuses drained? Should I be worried about this cyst? Could it be cancer? I'm a bit paranoid I guess.

I have the very same problems years ago. I had a very long history of migraine headaches. I used to have these throbbing, pressure headaches. They occur often. The pains get so severe to the point I get so nauseous and feel like vomiting. I have cold and clammy hands and feet and felt so cold. I was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis. I also have severe nasal or rhinitis allergies.

I also had problem breathing thru both nostrils; one more so than the other. My nasal septum was found to be deviated.
I was on constant rounds of antibiotics for the chronic sinus infections and sore throats.

Eventually, one doctor ordered Cat Scan. It showed that I had two nasal polyps. Subsequently, I went to an EENT specialist who diagnosed me with severe sinus infection. Surgery was recommended which I agreed secondary to the prolonged history of misery. . He scraped, and drained the sinuses, and irrigated or wash them completely with nasal solutions. He also resected the nasal polyps.

Post-operatively, when I asked him the number of polyps. He told me that he discovered DIFFUSED nasal polyps. These were resected. Biopsy was done and sent for testing. .As required by law or is the normal procedure, any resected body part is normally sent for biopsy. Thank God !. It was just benign.

He also did a septoplasty. Technically, septoplasty is considered a plastic surgery. but it's covered for medical reason if it's for a medical condition such as a deviated septum.

There are two types of sinus infection: acute and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis could be caused by the common colds, allergic rhinitis or hay fever, and the flu.and infection. Symptoms of pain usually occurs where the sinuses are particularly affected. If you have a bout of more than four episodes per year, then it's termed chronic sinusitis.

Sinuses are the hollow spaces around the cheek bones that warm, filter and moisten the air. These passages have a very essential responsibility in sustaining a person’s health. Healthy sinuses have a direct effect on the overall well-being of a person. When the sinuses get clogged it can cause headaches, allergy headaches, congestion, colds and sinus infections.

One of the causes of sinus trouble is the failure of the system It disrupts the natural process done by the cilia of filtering the air for impurities before going into the body. Due to excessive amount of impurities in the air, the cilia is not able to filter all of it thus causing the sinuses to clog which in turn results to health problems such as sinus infection.

Sinus infection can be diagnosed through the symptoms exhibited by the patient, through a physical examination, X-rays and sometimes in order to be sure doctors let the patient undergo MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) or CT scan /Cat Scan (Computed Tomography)
.

Sinus infection exhibits similar signs and symptoms to that of the common cold or flu. This usually happens when there is a build -up of harmful bacteria in the sinus cavity. When sinus infection happens the person will experience headache, fever, sinus congestion, drainage, runny nose, sore throat and post nasal drip.

Once the antibiotics effect wears out ; you’ll be back to the same problem because the primary problem is still there.

Since sinus infection has similar signs and symptoms to that of the cold or flu many think that; that is what they are suffering from. However the common cold only lasts about 7 up to 14 days and can disappear even without medication.

Hopefully, I thoroughly answered all of your questions and concerns and anxieties.:re your acute sinusitis; impending surgery for sinus draining and removal or resection of those nasal polyps or cysts.; and septoplasty

Most likely, these nasal polyps (cysts) are just benign and not cancerous. The surgery is a minor surgery. I had both procedures done on a same -day or short -day hospital . I was sent home after a stay of 2 hours in recovery room post surgery. I went home with my nasal packed drsg and two drains; which were subsequently removed.

Post-operatively, your main concerns should be bleeding and infection, which I had none. However, my problems with chronic sinus infection, migraine headaches, breathing problems due to a deviated septum and sore throats were relieved.

You're coming down with a sinus infection. You caught it early. To get rid of the symptoms, put 2 tablespoons of salt into 1/2 glass of water. Use a teaspoonfull and inhale this into each nostril. It will sting some but the infection will be stopped. To keep from getting any more, take a teaspoon of local honey each morning. It will help your body develop imunities to the airborne irritants that are in your area. You probably blew your nose too hard and created cuts or cracks inside the sinus cavities that were just waiting to become infected. Don't get hooked on nasal decongestants. They will dry up everything up there but you will not be able to get the stuff out. After a while, you'll be at the hospital getting them cleaned out with a water spray. Not fun. Been there, done that. The honey will help you from getting cold and flu symtoms as well. Natural cures and preventitives are the best for your body in the long run. No side affects, no medical bills and no long term damage to your body.

Hello,
Urticaria is really the medical term for the condition commonly known as hives. The best resource online about this condition is http://urticaria.toptips.org

Persistent Idiopathic Urticaria is basically a serious variation of hives or urticaria which is categorised as having lasted longer than 6 weeks, that can be a constant urticaria episode or a series of urticaria episodes which repeat for more than 6 weeks. The term Idiopathic explains a condition which has no noticeable explanation or cause.

Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria generally suggests a severe variation of urticaria which has no apparent cause or reason. Most of what I have simply said will come as no shock to the numerous of us who have actually suffered or still experience chronic hives.

The issue we face is that lots of people, also those in the medical profession commonly consider our condition as simply a straightforward allergy, however this analogy is really wrong. Although the signs and possibly the triggers of persistent idiopathic urticaria are the same as acute hives (urticaria) or that of a simple allergic reaction, the explanations are extremely different.

It's is important to understand the distinction between reason or cause and trigger as they are not the same for individuals who suffer with chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Please ask your doctor these questions. He is the one who needs to give you professional advice. If you don't get a good answer, go to another doctor and get a second opinion. Take your cat scans with you. Don't let anyone do a procedure until you understand the consequences, possible complications and exactly what they are doing. Make your Dr. talk to you!!

Nasal cysts are not that uncommon, so i wouldn`t worry about cancer, and as far as draining your sinuses, that`s what they do, you will have some pain,, but it looks worse , that what it really is, you will be glad you had it done,,, Good luck!!
