I am Mormon...although I prefer the term 'Latter-Day Saint'. Mormon is very derogatory. Mormon was the name of one of our prophets, and he was a very good man so it is an insult to him to call us Mormons. Sorry. Thought I'd mention that.

Also...the Word of Wisdom (Doctrine and Covenants, Section 89):
We are not allowed to drink coffee, tea, or alcohol. Also, we cannot smoke or get piercings (except for women: they can get one piercing in the lobe of each ear) or tattoos.
We CAN drink soda, and eat chocolate. We are advised to eat/drink them sparingly, but that is it.
All in all...we can't drink hot beverages. That's it.
I hope that that answers some of your questions about the Word of Wisdom.

doctrine - logical. It fits anthropological knowledge about native peoples waiting for the return of a white god with a shining aura; it fits stories about Jews sailing to the new world long before Columbus (and explains why columbus had maps from Jewish navigators. It answers the question, "Why would prophesy stop?"

Personalities? LDS come in all types. I met some who are dishonest, but not very many. We all have feet of clay, no one is perfect.

First off, Gods Child doesn't know what he's talking about. I left the Roman Catholic Church because of their warped views--at the age of 10 I had a Catholic Cardinal condemn me to hell for questioning church doctrine.

The members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are wonderful. There are members who are dreadful, just like you'll find anywhere else in the world. For the most part members will help and aid anyone who needs it, whether you are a member or not. When there are disasters around the world, they quickly band together and offer aid from any number of food storehouses around the world.

They are a misunderstood people because of their belief in the Book of Mormon, which, here's the kicker--is ANOTHER Testament of Jesus Christ. Right now, in Ward buildings around the world, they are studying the New Testament. Last year it was the Old Testament.

Their doctrine is the following of the principles set down in the Scriptures. Baptisms for the Dead are done in order for everyone who died without being baptized to be given the opportunity and choice to accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Note the word "choice". When baptisms for the dead are done, it is with the hope that those being baptized posthumously will accept.

Temple recommends are only given to those who are worthy, and worthiness comes from following the Scriptures--pay your tithing, follow the Word of Wisdom, follow the law of chastity, attend church services regularly. Simple, basic rules that anyone can follow.

They are a deeply religious people who truly believe that by following the Scriptures they will be blessed. Did you know that the Relief Society, which was begun by Joseph Smith's wife, Emma, is the largest women's volunteer organization in the world? They perform acts of charity on a regular basis--for anyone who needs it.

I think the doctrine is pretty far fetched. But the funniest dude I ever met was a Mormon. Guy had me busting up all through highschool. And the kindest most cheritable man I ever met was a Mormon. A friend of my grandma, his family took me in when I ran away. I think the Mormon personality is 4 star

their doctrine- Someone once told me, "If you put just enough truth in a lie, you can get anyone to believe it." That's how Satan operates. I think the doctrine has enough "Truth" to make the non-truth believable.

their personalities- I have a few Mormon friends. All I know are wonderful caring people. Full of faith and compassion.

Doctrin: Look up "Book of Mormon" on google or yahoo search, and put in keywords like false, cult, etc, and you will not believe the amounts of hits you get. Even if you specialize the search. Many many people have left the mormon church and explained the doctrin to be made up. I can't remember the entire story about their 'founder,' but it was pretty hilareous.

Also, any group, religious or otherwise, that has a sole purpose of recruiting other members, is considered a cult. From the short study I did, they can not have "fellowship" outside the church, such as work or leizure functions, being friends with non mormons outside of work, etc. My daughter has a good friend that was mormon, and they were allowed to play constantly. But, when the girl turned 12 last year, the very next day she was allowed to ask my daughter to join, and when my daughter (11, and who didn't understand) said she likes her grandmother's church and wouldn't change, the girl was unable to be friends with my daughter any longer. It was their "law."

As far as her parents were concerned, though, they seemed like very nice people. They would never fellowship, but were never rude, either. They asked us to join their church a couple of times, but after that, we've never heard from them again.

I think LDS people are great, just as I think Christians are great, and I'm sure Jews are wonderful too. I don't agree with the LDS doctrine,it doesn't go long with the Bible. Jesus told us that God is a spirit, Joseph Smith said he has a body. I believe Jesus. I've done my investigating, and found that Joseph Smith was a false prophet.

My husbands family is Mormons. They are a very self centered group of people.Caring only for those who are Mormon. Will let a person go hungry even if they are family,if they are not Mormon.
I know this to be fact, they turn us away when my husband got out of the army.
We had a baby and they just turned us away.
In a town in New Mexico many go hungry ,because they are not Mormon.

I don't know much about their doctrine but I do know that they are human beings just like you and I. As for their personalities, that would be a generalisation. God Bless You!!

Well, personality wise, My former manager was a Mormmon but I didn't know at first. Then one day he over heard me telling a curious co-worker that it was a cult. Everyday after that day he harrased me constantly and gave me a bad review even though I was such a good worker. I wondered why and was so upset until someone told me he was a Mormon. After that, I realized that he was a childish coward to afraid to approach me like a man and tell me I offended him.
