The only words you are required to say in a relationship is "I love you". Every thing else is completely optional.
If you don't have anything on your mind, and he doesn't have anything in his mind as well, let simple and romantic silence take it's wonderful course with you two.
My best suggestion for a new relationship , is to hold his hand if you two are walking around. Lie on his shoulder while he drinks. Feed him a little of your cookie. Little things like that can make a casually shitty day for a boyfriend the most perfect day anyways.
Also, I want you to examine and watch his talking habits [Try not to get him to notice you.]. Does he talk loud and a lot around comfortable friends? Is he as quiet as you? Is he uncomfortable in public speaking?
Things like these show how much he feels around you. If he's casually loud around others, then he's most likely having the same problem as you [So you should give him a little personal pet name or inside joke. It'll give you two something to smile about.].
If he's quiet anyways, try not to talk his ear off, or if he speaks well to a crowd, he's also likely to like PDOA [Public display of affection.] See how this all works?
Hope you can pick up more clues by yourself. =)

I agree, the ability to carry on a conversation with each other is usually a pretty essential part of a relationship.
Be yourself, make up a goofy song about him and serenade him, play cards, play a game of who can get stumped the first while asking questions about each other back and worth like, "what's the favorite colour?", "What colour are my eyes?", etc.
Good luck.

Um......honestly i know what it feels like to be shy but just ask him if it would be ok to sit with him at lunch and see what if he says......if he says no then maybe he's not all that interested? But if he says yes then you should sit next to him and if he says not today but how bout tomorrow then say ok sounds good but dont get fustrated and ask a thousend questions or get curious as to why not just say ok and im sure he'll want to explain himself ok? Good luck and im sure everything will work out for ya ok?

I see the masses here are very opinionated...... You must be young and not very experienced...... when you see him ask if him if he would like you to sit with him at lunch time ...let it be his decision ..........you will be making plenty of decisions soon enough ......... talk to him about a new movies or CD or band ..ask him about some school assignment or if he likes sports ..ask him how his team is doing.......after a while it gets easier...watch the news and talk about some story you saw.....ask him lots of questions about himself.....it is scary at first but keep at it .........my first boyfriend and I would just stare at each other off and on saying sooooo...... yup ..........then some sighs etc......but I learned to ask questions and talk less about myself .....good luck

LOL yea i think you should sit with him, talk to him about whats happening about him or you. If he is your boyfriend talk to him about anything you want because you 2 want trust in each other and by just sitting together and talking about anything would help your relationship and he will like you better. If you sit with him It will make the other guys jelous eventhough your just sitting with him.

The only way to have a decent conversation with him is to get to know him better. Sit with him and find out all about him.

I think you are moving way too fast. Maybe you should start by having a snack while talking on the phone.
