I was diagnosed with the flu yesterday- I had my shot, so it must be a different strain- but now I think I have an ear infection as well, as I can actually feel fluid moving behind the eardum, and its very painful; also my chest began to hurt very badly tonight, I havent been coughing too much I don't think, but could the chest pain be from that??

Basically, I am hoping for an impartial opinion, and wondering if I need to go back to the Doc, or just stick it out with the rest of the flu symptoms?

I am sorry you are feeling so poorly. You didn't describe what type of flu you have stomach??? Like norovirus or a body ache type flu bug??? I will venture an answer not knowing the details.

Anytime you have chest pain (don't know your age) but age doesn't really matter. If it is chest pain and it is concerning you, go to your doctor. If the pain is crushing or expands to your back or jaw, you need to be seen. Barring a heart issue, it could still be pneumonia so I would still want to be seen and get antibiotics.

The ear is another issue. Fluid behind your ear can cause pressure and infection pretty quickly. Is there a fever involved as well?

Since you have more than one symptom bothering you since your last visit, I would go ahead and go back and get your doctor to listen to your lungs and look in the ears.

First, Flu shots DO NOT WORK!!! The flu is a very bad virus that can not be cured. The chest pain you are feeling is lung pains. I'm guessing the virus cell got into your esophagus, and is causing pains. And the liquid in your ear is a ruptured eardrum. You should go to an ear doctor to check that out. The Chest pains can cause eardrum ruptures.

Well yeah I would go back to the doctor. I am a Med student and let me tell you, the flu is a more intense version of a cold with a fever. I would go see a doctor about the fluid and chest pains as they are not normal flu symptoms. Get better!

Flu can cause aches all over the body, but the fluid ain't good, and it sounds like you have a secondary infection in your ears. I'd make the trip back to the doc.

No way do you have bird virus. That is a contageous disease and you would be quarantined in a special ward of the hospital.

Go back to the doc and find out what you really have.

You will be fine in a few days.
If you already have the flu, then of course you will have headaches and pains.
When you have an injection, you are receiving the virus, in order for your body to have enough of the virus to build it's immunity to it.

the chest pain may be from mucus building up
you may want to see a doctor before you stop being able to breath because of the mucus
