My friends and I have been wondering if it is traditional to take college graduation portraits, or if they are just an "extra" thing that some people like to do. What is preferred and what is proper etiquette? Also, if you are to take portraits, are they supposed to be in cap and gown, or regular portrait posing?

I've never heard anyone doing this. I know i got pictures taken my senior year of high school.....but my brother never got any taken his senior year of college, nor any cousins of mine.

I had some taken for family and friends who I knew would be happy to receive these photos. A college graduation is a huge deal in some families and if yours is the kind to make a huge deal of it then definitely go to sears and have your picture taken with your cap and gown on.

I would send them out 3-4 weeks before, a photo would be nice and I would send them to close family and friends. My oldest is getting ready to graduate high school and I have always felt a graduation invitation should be responded to with a monetary gift, so I am mailing them to only immediate family and close friends.
