Dogs jump for attention. So if you put your leg up, or push him away, or even tell him no, he's getting attention. He's probably looking at this as a big, fun game.

The best thing to do with a dog that jumps is to immediately turn around, cross your arms, and look anywhere but the dog. If he keeps jumping, keep turning away from him and pay him absolutely no attention. Don't push him off, don't tell him no, don't even look at him until he stops.

As soon as he stops, reward him and pay attention to him.

Please don't listen to the people above who are saying to slap him or yank him around on a choke chain. That's idiotic - hitting a dog accomplishes absolutely nothing in dog training except teach the dog to be afraid of you, and we know more about dog training nowadays than the Koehler method of yank and crank.

One that i have learned from my mom teaching my dog not to jump when she was a puppy which in this case was a very long time ago since my dog is now 13 is that every time he or she jumps who walk away. Also another good trick to say no and the dog will get the idea that do not jump becuase if i do then i will get in trouble. It is not a overnight thing so this will take time but eventually the dog will get it. If not then take it someone who can train the dog for you.

As a trainer myself, I strongly suggest this solution. It works. All dogs, love to jump. And while it's ok,,,it's very rude to jump on you or any of your guests. They have to understand this is not appropriate. Everytime he jumps, it is probably that he is very excited to see you which is good. So you want to transfer that emotion to something else. Everytime, he jumps push him off w/you leg. Not knee him hard...but hard enough to wear he knows you do not like it. Also shout,,,No! They will be more scared by the No! When he finally stops, call her over, if she still is jumping...repeat. If she isn't,,,talk to him in a calm voice and give him a treat. Do not treat him until he comes to you w/o jumping or nipping. Over time, he will learn that there are certain boundaries he must respect for you. You both will get along much better. His only goal is to please you,,,so once he understands that this is not pleasing...he will stop. Plus he would rather to what is right because he knows there is a treat involved. :-)

everytime your dog jumps continue to lift your leg and nudge him off.try to do it as he jumps so he is jumping into your raised knee use the word OFF firmly when doing it, consistancy is the key every time he jumps you need to correct. You can do the same thing with a leash if he is jumping up on other people Just give a tug backwards and tell him OFF. Good Luck

lifting your knee against him is a good idea - also making sure he knows all his basic commands such as sit and down that you can use when he is getting too excited - heaps of rewards (food and fussing) when he gets it right. Worst case senario get a water squirt bottle (like you use for ironing) and when he jumps up give him a light squirt on the nose.

every time he does, push him down off you and say NO in a loud stern voice, if he does it repeatedly, keep saying NO every time and hold him down until he calms down. do this for like a week and your puppy should be almost completely broken of the habit. he may jump on you occasoinaly if you have like a toy or treat he really wants and is exited about, but not all the time.

My mother''s puppy liked jumping on people. What she did was step back and lightly slap the puppy on a head, sharply and firmly telling it no. The slap had to be hard enough to be felt, but not truly hurt.

Also, you could reward him for when he doesn't jump on you when given the opportunity, like giving him a treat.

puppys aim to please , time to stop that ,
try this when he jumps up hit him in the chest with your knee, and tell him no, tell every one in the house to do the same ,
also you will need a choke chain , if he keeps on , put on the choke chain , and correct him buy pulling him down to the ground every time he does this ,.
AND DONT NUDGE HIM ANYMORE TELL HIM DOWN AND MEAN IT , GOOD LUCK

LOL!!! If your dog is a Jack Russel it's impossible to teach it to stop jumping. If it isn't a Jack Russel then just hit him softly and say "No (the dogs name) don't jump. Bad dog."

When he jumps up, either turn your back and ignore him or, if he still jumps, smack him on the nose and say "No!" Be very firm, and tell him to sit, praise him when he does.
