Credit reports monitoring are executed by credit bureaus. Generally, credit bureaus calculate credit score and collect information on custumers accounts, court records (liens, bankruptcy filings, judgments) and requests by lenders. You don't need to have credit card if you want to get credit report. You can just go to sites of major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion and insert special forms.
Check all 3 credit reports they may contains errors. If you find error/errors write letter to credit bureau (which provide you this credit report) and explain your side of situation. They will check your information.

Go to www.annualcreditreport.com. Or contact one of the three bureaus: TransUnion, Equifax or Experian and they'll be happy to send you one by mail. I believe by law, you're eligible for one free each year.
