Hubby finally decided to get my a slowcooker. I've been asking for one forever. Due to our tight budget, it can't be over $100. Can anyone recommend me a good one that is reliable and durable?

Which ever one you choose make sure you look at the wattage, there are different ranges. You'll see when you start to compare. Look at the most expensive cooker and the least, get the one that's in the middle, wattage range that is.

I think most of them are about the same but I could be wrong! Just buy a brand that you are familiar with...none of those odd brands or "as seen on tv."

The main features to look for tho---get one that has a removable crock! The others are impossible to wash.

Make sure the lid fits properly, {before you take it home}, some of them have very sloppy lids that don't fit well.

Don't get one that is bigger than you would need! It is a bad habit {of mine anyway} that the bigger the pot the more I seem to add to it! lol You will get tired of eating all the leftovers.

If you are used to stovetop cooking then it is in the back of your mind that the liquid will evaporate and this does not happen with the crockpot, keep that in mind when cooking in it.

Even a really good cp shouldn't cost any more than around $40 unless you are buying one for a huge family!

By a slow cooker do you mean crock pot? If living in the US you certainly don't have to spend close to $100! I love my Rival Crock Pot that cooks at 4 - 6 -8 -10 hours with a two hour warming period if you are delayed getting home. It is large enough to cook even a roast, turkey breast or whole chicken. Make sure that whatever you get, the inner crock pot lifts out for easy cleaning. I have had ones which didn't and you have to be soooo careful when cleaning them. Also, you can remove the inner crock pot part and place in fridge if necessary or prepare what you are cooking the night before, refrigerate and place in cook unit in the morning before leaving for work. I love my crockpot and use it often.

Slowcooker? As in crockpot? If so dear, go to Walmart - they're about 10-15 bucks.

And try a chuckroast with potatoes and carrots

I like Rival. Make sure you get a two peice crockpot, not one peice (not counting the lid)!

They are not only easier to clean......but you can prepare the meal the night before, then put it in the fridge. In the morning, just take it out and put it in the heating element part.

You will come home to the lovely smell of an already cooked dinner!

You can get a 2 quart crock pot at Wal-Mart for under $10, and a 4-6 quart crock pot that costs from $25 to less than $40 in their housewares department.

Be smart and get one of the mini's. That's plenty for cooking good stew and saving energy$ and can make your meals in about 6 hours or so. You can even put on an electric timer with frozen stuff and have it working for breakfast or whatever.
You can even run them from your car, even. A 12vt converter. Been there, done that.
DONT OVERCOOK. That makes it taste like... road tar.
But how nice to put a couple of frozen chicken legs or whatever with veg's and let it simmer...
There's several out there, I got mine from National Dollar.
