State troopers have dashboard cameras on their cruisers, as well as Radar that captures video images.

These tools are used in cases that are disputed by the person ticketed. Are you certain you did nothing wrong? If you aren't sure what your speed was - pay the ticket or just take your chances.

If I knew without a doubt I was not speeding or whatever they charge me with - I would then face it down, and I would question if (a) my speedometer was operating correctly -and- (b) if the Police Officer calibrated his radar earlier that day WHICH they are required to do.

there has to be a very good reason to pull someone over, a burnt tail light, even a plate light would be enough to pull you over, I just read a news article about a trucker bringing in 3 tons of pot and he refused to allow an inspection of his rig at a border checkpoint, and the man doing the checking called the sheriff's department and they pulled the man over 18 miles down the road. The driver with the pot said he was going the speed limit and in court the judge did not believe the deputy. It might get thrown out in court because the cop did not have a reason to pull him over except the word of a checkpoint officer.

yes and no. Yes because if a cop wants to be a jerk and pull you over for no reason they can, how would you prove they had no cause to pull you over. The burden of proof would be on you, and they will not go out of thier way to help you.

No, because a majority of cops do thier job with integrity so if they pulled you over then chances are they had a good reason.

Your only option would be to file a complaint against that officer, but don't get your hopes up, cops get complaints all the time, it comes with job.

Anyone that says probable cause is wrong!!!
Reasonable suspicion is all that is needed.
Probable cause is what officers have when there is enough evidence to arrest. You don't get arrested for a speeding ticket.
Reasonable suspicion is when a reasonable person in the same situation would find the circumstances suspicious enough to warrant an investigatory stop.

They have to have some reason. It can be so lame as no light on your license plate like what happened to me the last time I was coming home. It was about 11:00 on Friday night, I have a small 2-seater sporty car, and I had a light out on my license plate. Of course, when he did this, I couldn't find my insurance card (which I do have insurance), and my inspection was out. He gave me a ticket for the light, the insurance card, and the inspection. I took care of all of them and the charges were dismissed.

As long as they can come up with some excuse, no matter what it might be, they can pull you over. Usually if they've pulled you over for some lame excuse like mine, they're fishing for something bigger and better, i.e. hoping you're DWI, etc., especially late at night like in my case.

In reality yes, police officers are just people and some of them use their authority for illegal purposes. For example, if they see a good looking gal they want to meet, they will pull her over and get her name, address, phone number etc. on some trumped up allegation that her stop light isn't working, or something similar.

I like when people tell me that I need probable cause....I need reasonable suspicion to make a "Terry Stop". Reasonable suspicion that a crime is occurring, has occurred, or will occur can get me to make a Tstop. It is better if there is an actual traffic violation. But i will resort to the totality of the circumstances if necessary. By the way... you people who ask these questions shouldn't have to worry. You have computers, homes, etc. The "bags" we deal with in my town would not waste their time on here. They are too cracked out. Do most of you live in small towns, or what?
