i keep uninstalling apple's endless nonsense from my startup menu but it just keeps coming back. i found out its because it automatically downloads with my gf's ipod which she says can not function without quicktime or itunes. so a few quick questions

1. whats a good mp3 player thats more user friendly

2. is it true that there is no way around all that bullcrap of having to use the apple store, and download itunes and quicktime and all that other useless junk that apple is always trying to get rich off of.

3. do most ipod users (or the other users of their pc's) also get irritated or is it just me because i havent ever heard these complaints by anyone else, especially b4 i bought it.

Thats precisely what kept me from buyin one of them pieces of crap! Glad I didnt too! They are JUNK! All I see in answers is IPOD trouble! I opted fro a Creative Labs player and I dont need to install ANY software! I plug it into a PC and swap files with copy and paste! Apple never could produce a product without makin it difficult or different!

I've seen quite a few players that only require a quick driver and will let you manage the files as a removable drive.

They'll usually include extra software but I usually use the add hardware tool to install the driver manually and avoid the bloat....sometimes they have a usefulll app but more often than not it's a cheap program design and I already have better tools installed

Also, you don't need to use apple store for ipods.....you do need itunes installed to manage the files buy anything you get off a p2p site or rip yourself can easily be imported to itunes and used on the player. There's even software that will help you encode ripped dvd files to be played on ipod

1. Most mp3 players let you use Windows Media Player to manage/upload your music, that's already pre-installed on your computer. When you go to a retailer, or purchase the mp3 player online, be sure to check the information on it, to see if there's any special software that's required with it. Or ask an employee.

2. Sure, there are ways of putting music onto your iPod without iTunes. However, the music files must already be converted into .mp4 files (iTunes software is very useful & recommended for organizing your music files correctly). One of these ways are dragging these music files into their designated folder on your iPod. If this seems like a complicated process to you, you might want to search it on Google. However, I recommend using the iTunes software.

3. Most iPod owners, that I know of, have no complaints of their iPods.

I have the Sandisk Sansa e280R MP3 player and there is no extra software involved.

I plugged the unit in, formatted the memory to remove the installed stuff, and transferred my music to it. This all took a total of 10 minutes and it has been running great for over 8 months without a problem.

1. I don't know, I have a Creative Zen Vision:M and an Olympus m:robe MR-100 and they both use software to load music onto the devices. A lot of the Chinese copies don't require loading software.

2. There are programs that you can use to bypass the software and be able to drag and drop files onto your device. You just have to look it up.

3. Yeah, I've seen a lot of complaints when it comes to MP3 player wars.
