Does anyone know anyone who has had braces before or who hads them? I want to know if you canget them to close a gap in your two fron teeth and how many years this will take. Does the dentist have to remove any teeth? I am already getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Give details please. Will this hurt? Will I get any injections if yes how to cope with the injections. Afradi of the dentist on top of all this.

Ive had braces for two years so far and i cant wait to get them off. I understand your fear. if the front gap is the only problem this wont take long, maybe a few months at most. but if there is an overbite and crooked teeth that need to be fixed it might take up to 2 years (estimated 1 and a half). i doubt he will use braces to close the gap, but rather use a more effective procedure. they probably will use an injection, but does NOT hurt. i once had this fear, but it just starts to numb and thats the only problems. to cope with the injection you probably should be as gentle as you can be and dont be frantic. and no the dentist will not remove more teeth, :). dont worry, youll be fine, it always seem worse than it actually is.

I wore braces from fifth to seventh grade. It was quite a process. They'd tighten them every so often and Oh my God the pain! Would literally have to eat soup for a couple of weeks before I could stand to chew. I had my wisdom teeth removed after the braces came off, I am 34 now and my teeth are still very nice and straight because of all that. I thank my parents, too.
Yes, it will close gapped teeth, they can fix almost anything cosmetically now. They'll give you plenty of laughing gas (nitrous oxide) if you're afraid (besides the nice smile, the only other good part about it). I'd say it depends on how much correction is needed to know how long you'll have to wear them and how bad it will hurt. Look foreward to the nitrous!!

Braces take up to two years to correct a gap.
Teeth being pulled is not painful because you get and injection to deaden the area. The injections arent that pleasant until the med starts to take effect.
You will be sore afterwards. You will be given a sheet of paper by your dentist with instuctions to take care of the sockets.
OR at least if you live in australia you will.
The best thing when you get the injections is to relax. try to visualize something you like doing.
They only hurt for a few seconds. Make sure you have some paracetamol on hand because you might have some soreness afterwards.

I had braces ! Blah..
They do hurt because your teeth will be shifting slowly all the time. You go monthly to the orthodontist where he will adjust the wire to make it tighter so your teeth continue to move. Your teeth will be sore for the first 6 months especially because durning that time, your teeth do the most drastic shifting (depending on how crooked and spaced out they are, it could be longer). They only hurt for about a week, give or take, after each monthly adjustment. It won't be so bad if you refrain from solid foods while they're sore from the adj. The longer you wear them, the easier it gets. Honestly, it's worth it and you'll thank yourself one day. Everyone's experience is a little different though. Good luck and I hope all goes well!!

Hey, I just got braces yesterday and I had to have 4 teeth pulled before i got them. Before pulling, they put this numbing gel on your gums and then you get the injection. The worst thing about the injection is how long it is. Bring your iPod, and it won't be that bad. Just keep taking deep breaths. You feel a lot of pressure when they pull out your tooth, but it's not painful. It feels like you want to move your head that way cause the pressure almost forces you to. It won't be that bad. Yes, many people get braces to close up a gap in your teeth, however, a few of my friends were told that it would close up on its own eventually. When you get braces, first they brush your teeth with a disgusting toothpaste. Then they have these little rings and they will be fitted to your back teeth - one on each corner. They will ask you to bite down to get the ring on. Then they take them off because you will put them on with glue later. Then they put this soap on them. Then they put glue on them. Then the dentist's assistent with pick up a bracket with little tweezers and hand it to the orthodontist. He will then place it on your tooth. It goes on like this until the teeth that need brackets have them. Then you wait 2 minutes while they dry. After that, they put on the rings from earlier. Now this is the worst part because the glue is super sour and bitter at the same time. It's terrible tasting and makes you wanna puke, but it's over soon. They they open your brackets and it's a little scary but they won't hurt you. They put in the wire and close the little bracket openings over it. They may put a coil on the wire to make a little more space in your teeth. Lastly, they put on your colours with this little tweezer thing it just feels like they are going around your tooth with it. Then they take to you and your parents about brushing and taking care of your braces. This seems like a whole long procedure and yes it's 2 hours but it goes by really fast. For the next couple of hours, you feel nothing. Then that night, it hurts. A lot. Only eat milkshakes and pudding and jello and stuff like that. You won't be able to chew. It takes while to get used to all that metal in your mouth. And you may talk funny, like you have a lisp. Take some advil or tylenol for the pain. In a few days, you will get used to it. But be prepared for sharpthings rubbing in your mouth. They give you wax to help with that. Sorry for such a long answer. Kay cheers! And good luck!

I had braces for two years, crowded bottom teeth, after about six months the put a flat wire on the bottom and within 10 minutes my teeth were straight!! It hurt, but it was worth it, I would say you don't need any other teeth pulled, but you might have to wear your braces for at least 2yrs. But really who knows they come up with, everything changes so quickly now, it's been 10+ years since I had my braces. Good luck, I would just visit a reputable orthodontist and have a consultation with them. Good Luck, just remember to wear your retainer(s), or your teeth can go back to the way they were!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had braces on for 4 yrs, but not for the same reason. my friend has a gap btw her two font teeth as well and she had to braces on the top to push them together. i think thats what you'll get im not sure though. every mouth is different. but as for pain or injections:: there is none. you sit down in a big chiar, the orthodontist puts these things in to keep your mouth open and push your tounge back, and he puts this suckie thing to keep your teeth dry. then he pushes two brackets thingys around your lastback teeth and then glues all the thingys on. puts the wire through and thats it i think. it hurts afterwards though. cant really eat either.
