Usually you will the renew paperwork in the mail and from the beginning of the expiration month until the last day of the expiration month is how long you will have to re-register your vehicle.

Most states will allow you a grace period of 10 days into the next month to register but after that you will need to pay extra to register your car.

Good luck and hope this helps.

There is no grace period, if that is what you are asking. When you lapse, you lapse, and cannot drive until you renew. If you are asking how far ahead you can renew, it depends on the state or province. In Manitoba, it is 45 days.
