answering questions there. If I had to guess the percentage of people who atest to the fact they do not believe in God, it would probably be about 90%. And yet it is in that category where they choose to hang out. Can anyone tell me why on earth people like that choose to go into this category? Is it so annoying to them that there are people who have a faith and would like to discuss it with others who have faith? Personally, I feel most of them feel unsettled about their claims of being an Athiest and are searching for God. Why else would they hang out in that category?

Happy are those who are conscious of their spiritual need, since de kingdom of the heaven belongs to them (matthew 5:3) With this Jesus explain that human being have spiritual needs even atheist in their case they dont believe in the God that sent people to hell, etc because they apply logical to tha statement that is false, and that´s why they think eveything is false, but they believe that something higher exist. No matter if you are in a wrong way people have spiritual needs, is like the hunger maybe you dont eat the rigth food or even garbage but when you are hungry you put whatever in you stomach. is the same with the religion.

I think most people are hoping to catch that one saying, that one new concept or point of view, or different view point that matches their own, in an effort to find more out about themselves. (Other probably come in to cause a ruckus)

Take me, for instance. I grew up with Baptist parents that didn't go to church ritually, but believed in God and went from time to time, and let a "proper" life. Then, I married into a Pentecostal family. There are nine preachers in my wife's family and a few more likely on the way. At that point, I received a crash course in what it was like to be in a christian family with deeply rooted beliefs. Through it all, fifteen years worth, I've seen miracles, prayers answered, and everything else that should have made my faith stronger. Yet for some reason, I still find myself questioning everything that has to do with religion.

I don't expect a q&a website to help me find what I'm looking for, though, because I don't think what I'm looking for can be found in just the pages of doctrine or just the teachings of past and present religions, or just answers from a single person's perspective.

I've always had a strange perception of things, and the ability to see all person's points of view. A strong empathy, if you will. This, in a weird way, has left me with not having my OWN view point about things. The same goes with politics. (Well. Sort of.) I know I don't believe in abortion or homosexuality, but I completely understand the view point of those who do. (I guess that's about the extent of it, as far as what I do know for sure.) As with everything else, though, I understand other's points of view and their way of thinking, almost as if I can feel that person's belief. I understand a liberal's belief and their opinion, as well as a conservatives belief. I understand modernist, independents, republicans and democrats, but don't know which party I MYSELF belong to.

I understand and can see why Baptists, Catholics, Assembly of God, Presbyterians and all the others have different beliefs, and not only that, I am able to understand why they believe in what they believe. I can also understand the Islamic way of thinking and worshipping, as well as the Buddhist and many other religions out there.

My problem, is that I wonder why I can't figure out my own belief. Why can I only understand other's beliefs, and not find my own? So, from time to time, I come in here to read other responses, and I also like responding to other's question, because I think that eventually, I will come to know and understand my own belief. By answers other's questions, I feel I'm also teaching myself, figuring out that dividing point of where I believe, and where I don't.

That's why I hang out in this category from time to time. Have a good'n,

James

I am in agreement with you, that they are searching, but they don't know at this point that it is the Holy Spirit convicting them.
All people are accountable to God. The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Is this the best you can do for a question? For somebody who seems to think they know all the answers to everyone else's questions and answers them in a very judgmental, critical fashion, you certainly can't come up with a very good one yourself. Do us all a favor: find something else to do with all that excess time on your hands.

There are several reason why some of us are seen here. Most of us are in the "All Answers" category, and constantly see questions addressed to us, or questions that catch our eye.

The second reason is that atheists do care about religion as a subject. Why?

Why do you wish to believe that we are all "unsettled" with our beliefs and that's why we are here?

Is it because it makes you feel superior? We are secretly wanting to be like you, and live your life?

Putting aside the arrogance of your baseless and wrong assertion, let me attest that the reason I am here is because I enjoy putting fundies in their place and acting as a counter-balance to the high levels of ignorance displayed by theists.

I am as comfortable in not believing in any gods, as you are in not believing in Zeus.

If all atheists left this section then it would be like church, boring. It would only be a matter of time before you stopped coming here. Atheists as well as people of all other beliefs spruce up what would otherwise be a very monotonous forum.

"I feel most of them feel unsettled about their claims of being an Athiest [sic] and are searching for God. Why else would they hang out in that category?"

So are you saying that you feel unsettled about your religion and are searching for another God? You didn't think about this before you wrote it, did you?

You answered your own question...the title is Religion and Spirituality...I can be spiritual WITHOUT having a belief in a deity or following a religion. I consider myself a spiritual atheist and a secular humanist. Got a problem with that? Too bad....
