He has to drive on rough terrain as a part of his job. His old job required a $1 million dollar policy on him and his vehicle. His new job does not require this, but he will still be driving in the mountains. Should I keep the policy?

Need more info. Is he self-employed? If not, then the umbrella may not respond as this is an employer liability issue and not a personal issue.

Is he an independent contractor or self-employed? If yes, then it may be possible to purchase an umbrella policy but make sure it covers his work activities.

If the underlying insurance policies can be increase to $1mm then it's probably cheaper to go this route.

But usually the cost of an umbrella is cheap insurance and well worth the expense.

The umbrella covers liability. If you have assets to protect from legal action, the umbrella makes sense. I would not leave home without it, but I have assets that could be taken in a lawsuit.
