D-Day just means the day the main invasion started.
The entire operation could be considered to be from 5 June to 19 March. Paratroopers began dropping on 5 June 1944 and the Normandy breakout did not end until the Falaise Pocket was reduced on 19 March 1944.

Well...you could really say that it lasted from June 6 until late July-there was hedgerow fighting and such all through the area known as Normandy..Patton's 3rd Army "broke out" on (I think, going off the top of my head here) July 28, 1944, and the Allied Forces were able to continue their advance eastward and out of Normandy. Tough question to answer!

D-Day lasted 24 hours, as any other day.
Basically after Day One when the foot hold was established the war was in its final stages
Google "Breakout from Normandy" to see the obstacles faced

I don't know dude, it was "The Longest Day", my dad was in it at 18 years old. He was in the Navy on an LST ("Landing Ship Tank", or in the navy men's vernacular "Large Slow Target"), his LST, designed to put men on the beach, Omaha Beach, was hit by Kraut artillery and he ended up in the Drink, surrounded by the floating body parts (intestines, limbs) of his friends, until he was finally picked up by a Scottish vessel and brought back to England with embedded shrapnel.
And, he never, ever talked about it, much less bragged about it, but he was proud that we whipped Hitler's ***, but he never stopped paying the cost of it until the day he died. So for us it (really and truly) lasted about 35 years.
I only found about the details from my uncle after my Dad died. And it explained my Dad's anger and alcoholism.
And I know that wasn't the answer you were looking for, but I remember being about 11 years old and asking my dad (for homework) who won such and such a war and he got a distant Robert Mitchum look in his eyes and finally said slowly and declaratively" "Son, nobody wins.. a war".

D-Day was June 6, 1944. It was 24 hours long. You want to ask how long Operation Overlord was.

why not look it up yourself instead of asking for random peoples' (which 90% are going to make up their answers for you) responses?
