When I was a kid, it seems to me that Good Humor ice-cream bars were about three times the size of the ones you can buy in the grocery store today. A strawberry shortcake would last me half an hour. Now, you can eat those little nothings in two minutes. Are we being gyped, cheated, ripped-off, scammed and otherwise conned and grifted by the Good Humor robber barons? What's going on here? I demand answers! This shall not stand! I want bigger ice cream bars! Power to the people! Death to tyrants and money grubbers! Anarchy in the Ice Cream Department!

Childhood is great. If you had a really good one everything comes in superlatives like that Good Humor ice-cream. Things that you enjoyed eating then taste ten times better than now and so on.

I remember being 5 or 6 years old, when my mother took me to see a beached whale somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean. I swear that the whale was four or five times as long as the lighthouse near by was tall. My mother a very taciturn woman could not help but laugh at my foolishness in adulthood. She used to be a nurse and worked with childern and observed that childhood memories are always an exaggeration. Don't change the way you feel about that ice-cream, it happens to be a beautiful memory.

Everything was bigger. Pepsi used to advertise 'Pepsi Cola hits the spot, 12OZ bottle, that's a lot. Twice as much for a nickle too, Pepsi Cola is the drink for you'. Now see how much it costs and how much it's shrunk. Candy bars started shrinking so they didn't have to raise the price. Coffee canisters went from 5 to 4 pounds and Flour and Sugar did the same. It isn't just that you've gotten bigger. The retailers downsized while keeping the prices up.

Everything appears to be larger when you are a kid, and things tend to grow even more in the memory. But at least they appear to still have the ingredient that gave them their name in the first place. :P

I'm sure they're a little smaller, but the issue is mostly that you and your mouth are bigger.
