My best advice is decide what kinds of things do YOU like to do - and would like to share with someone - and frequent areas that cater to those interests.
Simplistic example:
If you like art - make it a point to hang out in museums, get to know the staff, attend events, meet the artists, critics, community patrons, friends of these folks, other visitors.... etc.
When you meet someone in a bar - you meet a person that is probably into frequenting bars... If you meet someone in a church - you meet a person who is probably interested in frequenting church...
Look at your own interests, and frequent things that you enjoy participating in... THEN you have a shot at meeting people who share your interests - and whose friends share their interests - and you may find your perfect mate!
You don't want to fly exclusively in the "singles scene" and meet someone - only to be disappointed after you are together that they still hang out in the scene where you originally met.
Seek your passions, your joys... then you can't go wrong.

It depends on the neighborhood the gym is in. One gym that I used to go to was horrible for meeting attractive women. Most of the people who went were dudes and the few women who frequented were much older than me and not very attractive at all. I guess that particular gym would have been great for you but bad for dudes.
The bar/club scene is hit and miss. I've met some really cool girls at bars. Clubs are horrible for meeting people.
Try bookstores. I usually order books online these days but the few times I've been at a bookstores I always seem to find someone checking me out, and I've managed to strike up some conversations as well. Ironically I was in relationships those times so I never acted on it.

People that go to the gym are serious about their work out. Anything is possible and a lot depends on you. I think a is better for the man to be looking for someone like you. Maybe a place would be a place like Los Angeles Convention Ctr, Events,

Only if you like shallow superficial *** holes. Go to places with things you like for example concerts. Then if you see some guy there you already have something in common just ask if you can go and have a coffe or something after.
