First, stop using Eddy to get close to Bob. Like him or not, he's Bob's friend and any kind of friend wouldn't like to see their friend being used. Secondly, it's kind of difficult to do but just be up front with Bob. Tell him that you'd really like to get to know him better and ask if he feels the same way. If not, and you have no interest in just being friends then you can cut your losses now and move on.

Honesty is always the best policy. Dont use Eddy. It isnt fair to toy with his emotions. You wouldnt want someone doing that to you. Ask Bob if he wants to go out to a movie or something and see what he says. Let him know that you like to get to know him better. Then Eddy will get the picture that you are not interested in him cause Bob will probably mention it to him.
