In my town, they have a new animal shelter called Pahrump animal shelter; a new leash on life. It says on the website that they need some volunteers to help the animals, socialize with them, take them for walks, feed them, answer phones, etc.... And I was thinking of volunteering mon-fri and on Saturday. But then again I have school and projects as well. Should I just volunteer anyway? Or just do it later?

John A;
No I will not be giving hand jobs in the alley when I'm older. I don't think so. I'm going to college and hopefully won't be as stupid as you! Gee go back to school and learn grammar! Really.

I'm also planning on becoming a vet when I'm older. =] I love helping animals!

if you care about animals i think you would love it, especially if you are considering a career with animals (at a vet's office or with rescue groups, etc). they would be more than happy to have you just volunteer once a week, i'm sure! if you have a busy school schedule but want to connect with the animals too, you could just go one time a week or whenever you get a chance and feel like going. it's not like they will tell you you can only come 6 times a week, nothing less! at the aspca in my city, you can just go back into the kennels on your own and take the dogs out (you don't even have to go through the office). i've always thought about driving down there and taking a few dogs out for walks but it is downtown and kinda tricky to get to.

School is important, but I really think you should take this opportunity. It will help you out in the long run on your resume. You will gain experience working with animals. If you start putting things off now, it will never get done. I know because I have put things off, and I continue to tell myself, 'well maybe next week...month...year.' I say go for it. you don't have to work mon-fri and sat. You can start out working only on weekends, and see how it goes. If you feel like you can take on some more days, let them know. If the weekend is too much, you can always ask them if once every other week would help, and I'm sure it would. I volunteered at an animal shelter when I was in highschool and I loved it Soo much, I am so glad I did it. Good Luck with your decision, but I REALLY think you should look into volunteering.

Depending on what other extracurricular things you have going on, you should be able to balance school, projects and volunteering. Maybe consider volunteering only one or two days a week at first and see how that goes before committing further. Most organizations looking for volunteers will be happy with whatever time you can give them. Check out the organization and see if it's a good fit for you as well. Chances are you will find helping out with animals to be very rewarding, although you'll have to resist bringing them all home with you! Good luck, and thank you for being willing to help our furry friends.

Good for you! Volunteering has so many benefits, for both the dogs and for you. I volunteer at a hospital in the next city with one of our dogs, she's now a registered therapy dog and we visit patients twice a month. My advice to you is to certainly call and visit the shelter, find out exactly what they need, and how often they will expect you to be there. You will have to be cautious that you do not over-extend yourself (even though it is with the best of intentions), because if you do, you'll either let your grades suffer or you will be so discouraged that you might give up the volunteer work. Maybe you could sign up for 2 short shifts, and see how it works out? Then you could shorten your available time for them, or lengthen it as required. On behalf of all of the animals, God bless you for helping.

Volunteer when you can. If you have a school or other stuff you need to do then do it. Just volunteer in your spare time. I'm sure they would appriciate the help. I know the shelter in my area would love it. The animals need to be walked and have someone spend time with them, so they can find good homes with permanent families.

Good for you for wanting to help out. If it doesn't interfere with your school work I say go for it. You should probably only volunteer a few days a week during school or maybe just on Saturdays. During the summer if you still liked working there you could work more days.

Well if you put it off you'll probably never do it. Why dont you just volunteer a few days a week. Then you will know if you can fit more days in as you get to know the routine there.

if you want to be a vet volunteering with a shelter is a great idea. are you finding that you have enough time for everything else. if so then go for it but if not wait until things settle down a bit.

i think that you should volunteer because its a good thing. but only do it up to your limit. dont push your self to do more than you can. if you have other activities then you could do it maybe 2 or 3 times a week for a couple hours.

You should just do it on the weekends and if thats still a problem, wait until summer vacation. I think it's great that you want to help out animals though =]
