it has to be as important to him as it is to you, kids "learn" at different ages and some catch on quicker than others, but 3.5 is old enough I think. let him be responsible for the mess in the future, if he gets poop all over him, make him hit the shower and clean it off. empower him to be responsible.quit babying him in other words. you have a whole lifetime of teaching him, start letting go now, he will rise to the occassion. maybe not to your expectations but he will learn to care for himself.

sometimes a kid will try to hide if they hafta go potty. so if you see him trying to squat or grunt or anything take him to go potty. My daughter is 16 months and is doing really well going. I will clap for her if she goes and that is her reward. Goodluck!!!

no more on and offs. do it. get to it. he's almost 4 already!! go every 15 minutes for the first day until he's like, jees mom, i'll tell you. then the next day, 30, so on so forth. good luck. and he'll probably need nitetimes for bedtime.

well, first you should be consistent. Once you start, don't stop!! It's sometimes hard, but it has to be done. Take him every two or two and one half hours until you learn his schedule... Then make it fun. By special soap to wash his hands, put cheerios in the toilet to see if he can 'hit' them. but whatever you do... be consistent!!
