What would you think if you found a spot of blood (could be old or new- it was laundered) on a child's sheets? The spot was close to the top part of the sheets and it was on the fitted sheet (not the loose sheet). The child is someone I babysit for and the spot was on their bed that they use when they sleep at their grandmother's house. I don't know who, if anyone else, uses the bed. The child is approximately 7 years old.

Thanks- just want to know why it might be there and what I should do about it (if anything.)

Thank you to everyone. I was worried it might be from something like an internal bleeding ulcer or something worse. I feel better about it now and will just ignore that I saw it... now that I think of it, its probably not even possible for it to have leaked out of her mouth from a stomach ulcer and it doesn't make sense for it to be from anything else besides a nose bleed or a bug bite that she scratched. Thanks again- I just needed a second opinion is all.

Probably a nose bleed. My son used to get nose bleeds all the time at night, like 2-3 times a week. He had a minor surgical procedure done when he turned 3, and now at 4 yrs old he has them every couple of months. This would make sense if it was on the fitted sheet near the top, since that's where their head would be.

Most children cut themselves at least occationally, and another reason could be that the child had a nosebleed which is also quite common in childhood.

Unless you see any unexplainable marks or bruises on the child, I would not worry about it being anything to worry about. If the child communicates will with you, you can just ask the child about the stain on the bed- sheet; they may very well tell you about the time they cut themselves while climbing a tree or riding their bike.

Thank you for being a concerned baby sitter. If the child cannot answer you, or give you an understandable answer, you can always mention it to the mother or grandmother, just mention that you were concerned, as the sheets were laundered, but the stain didn't come out.

It will most likely turn out to be nothing, so don't worry about the child. If you do not get satisfactory answers or the child tells you he/she was bleeding because someone hit them, then you will need to approach this in a different manner. Good luck and have a good night.

I wouldnt worry to much about it, unless you feel in your heart that this child is in danger. It could be from a bloody nose, or a bandage leaking or anything. It could be blood from like scratching to hard a bug bite or something.
Unless there are other things happening, just dont worry. It could even be that stuff they use to clean wounds..
Have a great night~!

i would think it was nothing... if it is a small spot it could be from almost anything , a small cut, a nose bleed, even a hang nail, it is probably nothing... if you feel that there is something going on witht his child in a bad way make sure that you have more evidence than just a little spot of blood

It's most likely nothing. I work at a daycare and kids get hurt all the time. There was one day where a young girl got a nosebleed durring naptime and, due to the fact that she was sleeping, no one noticed until the sheet was COVERED in blood.

Once as a child I had a nosebleed at night so bad my closed eyes filled up with blood...over my eyelids. My Grandmother woke up and freaked out things someone had cut out my eyes. I'm sure it's nothing.

If nothing seems wrong with the child, then let it go. It could be anything....have you not ever picked a scab ..or lol ...picked your nose and had a little accident?? ..It is possible for a **if it is a girl** 7 year old to start her period.

my kids get bug bites sometimes and then they pick at them. they will bleed sometimes at night and get blood on the sheets or pillow. I wouldn't worry about it Unless there is other evidence of things not right.

Could have been a bloody nose or the kid may have bit their lip or something. Or maybe even a bug bit and the kid may have scratched the bit and it bled.
