Can a person mistakenly receive a W-2, apparently having never worked at that particular business? And yet, still have your name, address, and social security number all correct on the form? Is this AT ALL POSSIBLE???

Well, here's the deal. My DH got a W2 from a place he's never even applied to. It's a well-known business in the area. How would they get his info in the first place? And then what?

It does happen, you should contact the employer on the W2 and have him find out the correct information so that he can have it changed to the correct information

He needs to contact the business. First beware of a scam. Don't call the number on the W-2 (if one happens to appear on it). It could be a scam where they will then ask for further personal information. Instead, look the number of the business up and call them. Ask for their human resources department and ask to speak with the manager. Explain the situation. Better yet, visit the business (bring proof of identity...license, social security card, birth certificate, etc.), visiting the business would be a better idea because they may not give information over the phone. After explaining the situation, politely demand an answer because someone may be using his social security number for other things. Then he will want to contact the three major credit reporting agencies to see if his credit has been used by someone else (and possibly damaged). It could all just be an error but it sound more like someone used his social security number and name to get a job...or it's a scam. He may want to take care of this ASAP as it could cause a lot of problems down the road...the government may claim that he owes income taxes from this employment for starters.
Good luck to your friend.

Easy if someone has stolen your identity.
